We love educational toys, even more so discovering new and interesting things now that we are home schooling. The girls find hands on projects and games so much more interesting than learning from books so when we were asked to review the Bandai National Geographic sets I knew this was something they would enjoy.

We were sent the Dig Kit and the Crystal Growing Kit both aimed at children age 8+. Although there is an age reference on the pack I have to say that Amelia loved the dig kit and took over from Evie when she got a little restless, relentless digging soon became boring for a girl who loves instant gratification but Amelia loves muck and dirt so was happy to work her way through to the hidden treasures.

She unearthed 2 pieces of pottery and a dino tooth, the tooth was the best thing ever apparently and developed into a conversation about what kind of dino it was from etc.

We love the whole concept of these kits as they provoke conversations and give a little piece of history that you would never come across in every day life and the fact you have to dig for them like a real archeologist brings a profession to life.

The crystal growing kit is one that needs a little more patience as you have to wait for the crystals to grow (as in the name!) Evie loves everything sparkles and glittery so the fact you got an amethyst inside the kit to show how yours is meant to look was great. It gives the incentive of waiting and watching your own grow.

Everything is included in the kit including a stand for the amethyst itself and obviously this kit is aimed at 8+ and I would recommend that the age is adhered too because of the ingredients. I will pop a picture on instagram once our crystal has grown!

Kits are priced at £9.99 each and available from all good toy stores.
