I love a good boxset, there I said it and I’m sure I’m not alone.
However, isn’t it always the case that there are either masses you want to watch or nothing at all – seriously, I can spend hours once the kids are in bed either engrossed in a series or constantly flicking through channels bored out of my mind unable to find something to watch on the 5000 channels available!
Right now, mid October, when the nights are getting darker and the blankets and candles are out in full force I am excited to have found a few good programmes that can keep me company once the kids are in bed.
The Haunting Of Hill House. To say I am loving this is an understatement! I love a good horror and my goodness it’s a long time since something made me jump out of my skin and be totally covered in goosebumps – well this show has done this more than once I can tell you! I guess it is self explanatory by the title that it is about a haunted house that a family move into. All 10 episodes cover from when the children were little to modern day and it keeps dotting back and forth in time, telling each of the childrens’ stories. I have sat with my hand over my mouth not daring to breathe, hid behind cushions and literally cried for the family, I would say be prepared for no sleep though – 2 nights running now I have been up at 2am still watching!
9.1.1. If you love a good uniform series then this is for you. I am a sucker for shows like this, a day in the life, dramas based around all of the emergency services in America. Abbie, one of the main characters, is a 911 operator, so you get to track everything from the first phone call through to the police, ambulance and fire brigade responding to the emergency. Of course we get to see the stories behind the drama too, the home lives of the responders and I love that each episode seems to follow a theme – for example there was one called Karma in which things that happened were in direct correlation to things people had done earlier in life. Payback is a bitch!
The Truth About The Harry Quebert Affair. Patrick Dempsey – nuff said. I can’t help but love anything this god is in and he isn’t disappointing as the infamous author Harry Quebert, I am just hoping he doesn’t let me down and really is as innocent as he protests! The show is a mass of flashbacks as Harry tries to protest his innocence in the murder of Nola, a 14 year old girl who he befriended one summer. Of course there are lots of twists and turns, things turn out to be different to what you expect and stories emerge about the summer they spent together…as I said, I just hope its all innocent, I don’t think I could cope with my love of PD if its anything else!
Killing Eve. Once in a while a show comes along that is completely different to anything you have seen, Killing Eve is that show. Everyone I have spoken to loves it and can’t wait for a second series, me included. I binged this in one sitting and it was so worth the eye baggage the next morning! Eve is an MI5 officer turned spy who attracts the attention of Villanelle, a cold hearted but very entertaining assassin. It is impossible not to love Villanelle and I have heard more than one the words ‘girl crush’ involved when discussing with friends! Full of action and witty one liners this is definitely a programme not to miss!
I am always on the look out for new box sets to watch though, what is your favourite right now? Have you seen the above and do you agree with my line up of autumn favourites?
XOXO
Debbie
I have heard great things about Killing Eve in fact my friend’s husband worked on it so I had a bit of an insider tip! I am parenting solo this week so maybe I’ll get into it evenings this week.
I keep reading more and more things about Killing Eve. I REALLY should watch it on iPlayer!
I really want to watch Killing Eve. I have heard so much about it!
I want to watch killing eve and 911 as they are both something I am interested in. I just finished Line of Duty so I want some more police drama.
Patrick Dempsey! I just love him but he will always be Derek Shepard to me 😉 I really need to watch that though and Killing Eve too but again she’ll always be Christina ;))
I haven’t seen any of these. Would love to to watch them.
Everyone seems to be RAVING about this haunting house programme. I NEED to check it out although maybe not when I’m on my own! xxx
