If you are worried about a leak that you have noticed in your home, then this can be a difficult situation indeed, and it’s one that nobody particularly enjoys when they are in it themselves. As long as you can get to the bottom of it as soon as possible, it should be fairly easy to deal with, and you shouldn’t have too much damage or anything that needs replacing. But it can be tricky to identify the source of the leak in the first place, and that is something that we are going to look at here. Just what are the most common causes of a leak in the home?
Roof
Leaks that come from the roof can be particularly worrying, and they can cause a lot of trouble when it happens to rain a great deal, and this can even mean that you are going to struggle to keep your home dry at all. Roof leaks come about for many reasons. It might be a damaged roof, and you may just need to replace a couple of tiles. Or it might be that the gutters are full of leaves and other debris, causing rainwater to flow between roof tiles. Cleaning gutters is an important thing to do to ensure you keep this possibility at bay.
Washing Machine
If you have ever had a washing machine leak, you will have known about it straight away. It causes a huge mess and often even an unpleasant smell in your kitchen, and you will know that you definitely need to do something about it right away. Most leaks from a washing machine are a result of a faulty or broken pipe, either inlet or outlet, and it is a simple case of replacing that pipe if so. But make sure that you do it right, or you could make the situation worse.
Water Heater
If you have a water heater in your home, this is worth checking too as a possible source of the leak you are experiencing. A water heater can rust and corrode over time, and this can mean that you end up with water leaking, even if only a small amount it can still make a difference and cause you a lot of trouble. It would be time to upgrade to a new water heater in this way, and that should then fix your issue in your home.
High Water Pressure
You need a fair amount of water pressure to ensure that water can get through the pipes and to your taps. But if the water pressure is too high, that can put a lot of strain on the pipes and, ultimately, it can cause the pipes to crack or explode, which in turn means that there will be a leak in the home. So if you have a leak and you are not sure where exactly it is coming from, it might be worth trying the water pressure and seeing whether it needs to be lowered a little.
