I am a huge fan of making my own gifts for a personalised Christmas, whether it be jam, cakes, filled chocolates or something crafty like a photo collage or a one of our family photobooks. Having been a scrapbooker long before I started to blog the photo lover in me adores making albums etc to keep our memories alive. The kids still love looking through their books as I would write down what we did and the dates, where we were and how we felt about the day. Receiving such a personal gift for Christmas brings everything back to family which is what the whole season is really meant to be about!
I have some photographs that are precious to me and I would love to share them with you. First up is the photograph of Evie holding my finger when she was a day old, there is something so innocent and precious about how much this teeny little person relies on you every single day of their lives. She was holding so tight that I felt my heart would burst and although this picture might not mean anything to anyone else, for me it symbolises me as a mother, a protector and as someone she can hold on tight too forever.
Another photo that means the world to me is this one that we took recently after date night! A few months ago date night would have been a pipe dream but we made an effort and our 18 year old stepped in to babysit and proved he is more than capable. Maybe it was time for me to let go of the reigns a little! We went out for a meal and thoroughly enjoyed each others company, we were both worried we would have nothing to talk about except the children but we acted like we were on a first date again, something that was exciting and thrilling at the same time concidering we have been together over 22 years!
I have photographs of us when we first got together as 20 year olds and we look so innocent and young but to be honest I prefer this photograph, its real, it shows how 6 children and the years together have aged us. It shows how strong love is when you know its forever! We may have lines on our faces, be a little bit chunkier and have a few grey hairs coming through but our hearts are more full than they have ever been.
Do you have photographs that spark special memories for you? Do you like giving personalised gifts for Christmas?
XOXO
Debbie
