Ah my favourite season and whether you’re ready for it or not, autumn is here. This of course means many of us are starting to retreat indoors, light our fires and pull out the winter woollies. But how do you give your home a lift this winter, creating an interior space that feels warm, inviting and cosy?

Thankfully, there are plenty of trends dominating the interior design market that will help you achieve this look with ease. Below, I have handpicked some of my favourites for you to have a go at in your own home:
Introduce Dark Greens
Despite the fact the leaves are looking autumnal outside, this definitely isn’t the case inside because things are turning green. From kitchen cabinets to feature walls, dark green is becoming a dominant colour. Team it alongside leather and natural wood before accentuating it with creams and brass for a truly cosy feel that’s perfect for winter.
Create a Relaxing Retreat
As many of us start to feel overwhelmed by our increasingly connected world, we’re constantly looking for somewhere we can escape to, and this is reflected in the interior design world. Designers are now looking for ways they can help us switch off from the outside world, recharge our batteries (no, not on our smartphones!) and create a wonderful sanctuary.

The best place to do this in is your bedroom by surrounding your sleeping area with floating fabrics, charming bedding and luxurious throws. And don’t forget to complement this look with your curtains or blinds, opting for warming, gorgeous designs from companies like Direct Blinds. Then, place a comfy chair in the corner to create a wonderful reading nook.
Choose Velvet
When it comes to luscious, warming fabrics what could be better than velvet? It’s incredibly welcoming for the colder winter months and when you combine it with natural, roughened textures (i.e. woven blankets and reclaimed wood), smooth ceramics and metals, it creates added layers to a room, bringing a tactile, cosy feel that you’ll definitely feel at home in.

Introduce this velvety texture in the form of a chair or sofa; or if you’re not wanting to change too much, opt for a velvet throw or cushion instead.
As you can see, all of the up-and-coming trends for the autumn/winter season are full of warmth, character and style, and they’re incredibly easy to recreate in your own home. All it takes is a few accessories and soft furnishings and you’ll have created the perfect winter retreat that’s ideal for hibernating in and I can’t wait, come find me in spring as I am snuggling up and not leaving the comfort of my own little haven!
XOXO
