There doesn’t seem to be a weekend in the run up to Christmas that we don’t have something planned, whether it be meals out with friends or drinks with the girls, the calendar soon fills up, but of course that means the wardrobe must fill up too! You surely can’t wear the same outfits for every event. So here are my top tips, or at least what I feel would work well, in the coming holiday season.
I am first and foremost a 50’s girl so love my full circle skirts or dresses, there is something so beautiful about a mass of fabric that sways when you walk. These dresses look perfect for afternoon tea but also lend themselves to looking pretty dressed up with some sparkle and fancy shoes for a party too! I have found ones with cap sleeves or even 3/4 length sleeves suit me better as they are a little more flattering, and also hide my chunky arms!
For some reason I never really feel dressed up in trousers, I have some beautiful black ones with paisley velvet black embossing but even those just feel like I should be part of the wait staff, I always worry someone will ask me for a drink and I won’t have the guts to tell them I don’t work there, then before I know it I have spent my night serving drinks! Likewise with a blouse or shirt, unless its a very good fit they hang from my chest and make me look larger than I am, hence my love of the simple dress – fits in all the right places and hides those chips…I mean hips!
Accessorising for me is a big thing, I either go all out or really simple! I’m talking dangling feather ear rings that Bet Lynch would be ashamed to wear or tiny diamond studs – its always one or the other. Likewise with necklaces, although I do find that the more statement the necklace, the more compliments I get – although I do love a simple pearl one now and again!
Now the shoes….I have to admit that I have had some shoes for years but never worn them. Some are Irregular Choice, and who doesn’t have a pair of those that they coveted but have never worn, in the back of their wardrobe. I have everything from strappy black sandals, right through to really high boots and although over the knee boots with lace up back are perfect for the party season, I am not so sure I could even walk in these anymore. Gone are my days of 5 inch heels and I am now down to a modest wedge to keep me from toppling over! Which is great, because Uppersole have plenty of other designs and heel heights to choose from.
Flats are great for dancing the night away and you won’t end up having to take them off at midnight when you are staggering home before turning into a pumpkin. Of course you may wish to wear those heels, take a pair of fold up ballet pumps out with you and change at the end of the night.
XOXO
