We were kindly invited along to Fat Hippo last week to sample the Easter menu and try out the new Kids Menu too. Although the Easter specials were AMAZING they are now finished so I’m going to focus on the kids menu and what it offers for little ones when you visit.
My girls love to decide what they want themselves, if I simply ordered something for them that takes the fun out of going out to eat as a family and I want them to feel included. Now, most burger joints will offer hamburger, cheeseburger etc with very little variation and its take it or leave it when it come to a kids menu. Fat hippo have created a build your own burger which puts the creation in the kids hands! How fun is that!
The girls were presented with their own colouring menu where they could choose exactly how they want their meal. First up you pick your patty, whether it be beef, chicken or vegan, then toppings, sauces, garnish and sides. The girls are quite fussy when it comes to their burgers so opted for a beef burger with no sauce and just lettuce and tomato. It was so good to know that it wasn’t just labelled ‘salad’ as they usually have to pick through the bits they don’t like.
Next up was the drinks or shakes and finally the desserts, there are only 2 dessert options but by the time you work your way through the almost adult size main there really isn’t much room for anything else!
While the burgers were being crafted the girls had the chance to create and colour in their ideal burger, the food arrived quickly and was spot on to what we had all ordered.
A little peek at what was on the Easter specials board was the Blazin’ Cod burger which was a crispy coated fish burger with lashings of fresh slaw and sauce! Ethan opted for the Fat Hippo burger which is a classic and one we order every time we visit.
My highlight was the Trash Browns! I could eat these all day every day, little potato balls coated in a gooey cheese sauce and crispy topping! Bliss! These are one of the starters but I think having them as part of a main could certainly complete the meal!
We really struggled with dessert but I couldn’t turn down trying the Chick’n’Mix waffle cone, which was a huge cone filled with ice cream, chocolate sauce, freeze dried strawberries and mini chocolate eggs! I really hope they make the decision to keep this one on the menu as it really was amazing and we ended up sharing it between all of us it was that big!
Another fabulous meal out in Durham from Fat Hippo. We will most definitely be back again soon as it really is one of our favourite spots to visit.
XOXO
Debbie
