As we slowly start to realise our vision of the dream home we can find that there are things that get in the way. Life gets in the way, especially when we’ve got things that are more important than renovating a property. Our children can be considerable expenses but when it’s got to the point that we are absolutely fed up of the sight of that wall going unpainted we have to figure out the best approaches to renovating the property despite children running around. What are some sage pieces of advice that we can all take advantage of when trying to fix our house when our children are forever playing house?

Getting Outside Help
To an extent you have to do this but when you’ve been putting off renovating certain parts of the property investing that time and money in a professional means that you have to follow through with it. Companies like Lowe Design Build can do lots of the work and we must remember that when we get outside help that it’s getting the ball rolling. This means that it can be the boot up the backside that we really need. When we start to put things off because we don’t have time or there’s always something to do before you know it, years have gone by. So, by getting outside help, you are forcing yourself to get on with it, fix the interior design components you’ve been annoyed with and just getting the property to your standard.
Little And Often…
Trying to tackle the entire property can be a nightmare, especially with children in tow. When you are working on a property yourself it’s far better to do little and often. If you are looking to renovate a living room it’s important to do this last, because if you have to start knocking walls through and ripping off wallpaper, at the very least the bedrooms are neat and tidy and the kids can stay there. You also need to think about the health implications of knocking down walls, especially with all the dust. Naturally, you can send children to a relative, but tackling the house one room at a time benefits yourself as well.
Minimising Your Stress Levels
If you set aside your weekends for DIY and renovating it’s important to maintain that balance, not just for your stress levels but for the sake of the children. If there’s two of you doing the work it’s a good idea to tag team. It’s also important to make sure that you will spend time as a family but when you tag team it’s better because there won’t be the children to think about and you can just get on with the work. It’s also important to realise that it can take longer than you think. And it’s not uncommon for it to be a year (or more) in the making which can be incredibly frustrating. Think about the long haul and the final product, but also realise that when it is too much that you have to step away. It’s not just about the house but it’s about everybody else that’s living in it!
It’s a lot of hard work and you may find yourself doing DIY when the kids have gone to bed but once it’s done you can finally relax!
