Our obsession with weighing scales is unhealthy, I know I have spent years as a slave to those numbers. My mood can change depending if those numbers are higher than I think they should be. In this day and age we need to realise there is technology available to give us a more accurate look at how our bodies work from the inside out.

A Dexa Scan is the clinical gold standard for measuring fat, muscle and bone density. A DEXA Scan (Dual-Enerxy X-ray Absorptiometry), uses two different types of waves that are reflected by lean muscle, and bone differently. The scanner uses this information to create a detailed map of your body and measure your body composition.
The Dexa Scan works by using two safe and low dose x-ray beams through the tissues of the body to measure density of bone, fat etc. The whole scan takes around 7 minutes, during which you are lying flat on a scanning bed.

I am approaching 45 so one of my concerns is osteoporosis and arthritis, it is common knowledge that bone density decrease as we get older. To know how mine are fairing as I approach menopause means forewarned is forearmed. We do have a history of arthritis in the family so to be able to pick it up early would mean being able to make a lifestyle change now to help later.
Dexa Scans are beneficial to not only pre-menopausal women but both men and women of all ages. The mirror and scales can lie and give superficial results, to find out how your body is working from the inside out gives a whole different level of knowledge.
Check the website to find a Dexa Scan location near you or consult your doctor for more information.
