Is there any greater challenge for the working parent of today than balancing your career with your family life?
It would seem not, and for small business owners hoping to have it all, the same ambitions which are hugely rewarding are also time consuming and can eat into those precious hours.
These challenges have only increased with the normalisation of working from home, and it can be hard to lead two separate lives within the same space.
So if you’re struggling to get that much sought after work-life balance, check out these three tips for running a successful business alongside a happy family life.
1. Don’t be afraid to accept help
If you’re a driven and ambitious individual, you may find it difficult to relinquish control over any situation, whether that’s at home or at work.
Do yourself a favour and accept help where you can get it. If you have a significant other, let them help where possible, whether that’s relieving the responsibility of a few household chores or letting them have a hand in business affairs (if they know what they’re doing!)
Meanwhile, within your business, learn to delegate tasks to your employees. Every SME owner knows how hard it is to find the right staff, but once you do, it’s important to trust them. Not only will it take the weight off your mind, but it allows new ideas to flow freely, maximises efficiency and shows them that they are valued.
2. Digitise
If you haven’t already transitioned at least some of your business’s offerings online, it’s time to start.
Not only is it an effective way to ensure that your company thrives by expanding your reach and bringing your services to new customers, but marketing online targets customers in a far more efficient way than traditional offline marketing methods.
Not only, therefore, does it save time, but it can also cut your costs by providing measurable results that allows you to see exactly what works and what doesn’t. For a simple transition to digital, get in touch with an agency like Maratopia Digital Marketing who can assist with a variety of services from web design to SEO and PPC services.
Maximising success and reducing stress in your working life will free up more of your time to spend with family and revitalise your energy.
3. Set boundaries
If you’re working, you’re working. If you’re winding down, you’re winding down. Don’t try and combine the two.
For instance, don’t cheat yourself on family film nights by settling in front of the TV with the laptop – choose between them. If you’re only half present for either of those activities, not only will you limit your productivity, but your family will miss you enjoying the experience in full with them – quality time spent together is crucial and shouldn’t be compromised.
Perfecting that work-life balance is tricky and can take years to get right, but we hope that your
