For some reason each Christmas the girls have a growth spurt so going back to school in the January ends up bringing with it a whole new uniform and shoe expense! The last thing anyone wants just after Christmas.
What I have found is that a decent pair of shoes will last the girls from the January through to the following year, if not longer. We were recently sent a pair of shoes each for the girls from Treads, which come with a 12 month guarantee so that is such a bonus as kids tend to go through cheap shoes more than anything else quickly. I really never knew what Amelia use to do to to hers, she would go through the toes so fast due to wanting to play football all the time, competing with the boys is a tough game.
The girls are chalk and cheese so thankfully there are a lot of different styles of shoes to choose from. Evie opted for the Adelaide (size 2) while Amelia went for the London (size 9). Both complete opposite ends of the spectrum but totally their style.
I was pleasantly surprised with how sturdy they feel when we took them out of the box, there is weight to the shoes but not enough to make them uncomfortable. Treads are constructed using a “strobel” technique where the upper is placed into a mould and the sole is then injected around it creating one unit without the need for any gluing. This not only creates a really strong bond but offers additional flexibility, perfect for active kids. With reinforced heels and seems these are really made to stand anything my monsters can throw at them!
The shoes are also made with duel fit system and are ergonomically designed to give you the perfect fit. Removing the base under sock layer you will increase the width of the shoe from a standard to a wide fitting. Removing the footbed also gives more depth, making them ideal if using orthotics or your own insoles.
The girls have been wearing their shoes now for over 2 weeks and are as perfect as the day they arrived!
