Designing a small bedroom can be tricky, but there are several ways to handle any problems and difficulties you may face. You can still create a comfortable and functional even with minimal space; here’s how.

The first thing you need to do is to reevaluate the size of the furniture you have and the furniture you want to put in the room. The shape is also important; wanting to buy round side tables can open up a bit more space compared to square or rectangular ones.
If you don’t need a large chair in the room, don’t get one, but if you need somewhere to sit, opt for a bench at the end of the bed or a seat that doubles as a table or a storage container.
One mistake that many people with small rooms make is that they opt for chests of drawers and tables for clothing and item storage and display. While this can sometimes work, the better option is shelving.
Vertical storage will always be more effective as you can fit clothing, house plants, ornaments, and whatever else you may want on a shelf that takes up substantially less space compared to the alternatives.
Another simple route to making a small space work is to be minimalistic. Minimalism doesn’t have mean boring; instead, it means being more thoughtful about what you add to a room. It is also very easy to do this, even if you aren’t a minimalist at heart.
Besides sleeping, think about what the room needs to provide at a minimum. Do you need a space to sit and relax, a space to read? Are you exercising in there? Once you know what you need the room for, you can then decide what does and doesn’t belong in it.

If you have the space and the money, a solid option to add more room to the space is to add built-in cupboards and a built-in vanity. This option can save you a ton of space while enjoying the maximum amount of storage space and functionality.
Storage is a constant struggle in a small space, but there are ways to make it easier and less of a headache. First off, choose furniture that can double as storage, such as a trunk for the foot of your bed that you can sit on and under-the-bed storage.
Under-the-bed storage, in particular, can be incredibly useful for those who live in apartments, too. It can be used to store extra clothes, linen, and other oversized items that would take up too much space anywhere else.
Depending on your bedroom, style of house, and size of house, you may have some awkward corners and angles that you need to work around. More often than not, “regular” furniture won’t quite fit or work in areas like that.
Because of this, you may be better off having bespoke furniture and solutions made for you instead. This may cost a bit of money, but it is well worth the investment if you are planning on being in the house for a while.
While this sounds contradictory since minimalism was mentioned, there is difference between filling all of your space and using all of your space. You want to maximise what you can do in the room while minimalising the amount of furniture you need.
While there is no “one solution”, as it will depend on your space and needs, always keep in mind how the space is being used and if you are using every inch of floor and wall space to its full potential.
Another mistake that some people make is underestimating how useful and functional their headboards can be. Nowadays, you can easily find headboards with built-in shelves and small cupboards, ideal for decorations and storage of smaller items.
Not only that, but the top of the headboard can act as a shelf as well, allowing you to use it as a place for lamps, eliminating the need for bedside tables.
Much like how the head of your bed can be turned into something highly functional, so can the foot of your bed. There are many ways to utilise this space, but three of the best ones will be adding storage, adding somewhere to sit, or a combination of both.
A trunk can be a brilliant way to add a lot of storage to your room. A small bench can add a seating area, and combined with shoe storage underneath, you can create a highly functional piece of furniture. Finally, a combination of the two is the best of both worlds and arguably the better option.
As you can see, it is not only very easy to decorate and design a small room, but it is just as easy to create a super-comfortable room that will meet all of your needs, be somewhere you want to spend time in and be a place that never feels too cluttered.
