With a new year comes the expectations of everything being perfect, that whole new start, blank pages to fill with resolutions and vows of how great the year ahead is going to be. Everyone and their dog seem to be posting about New Years resolutions, what hey have planned for the following year and everything seems to be smelling of roses!
Well sometimes things just don’t happen like that, sometimes things can feel overpowering, as though you are being pulled in all directions yet you don’t have the energy to do anything at all to make it better!
Sometimes we need a little push in the right direction instead of being pulled…
Here are 10 sure fire ways to pull yourself out of the funk and get that motivation flowing!
Yes, simple as that! Get those shoes off and get outside! Go for a walk, get some fresh air and take some time out. You will be surprised how much better you feel after clearing your head!
Endorphins, the feel good hormone, is released when we exercise so move that butt! Stick some music on and dance while you do the housework, stretch it out, do some yoga, go for a run (personally i prefer the flinging myself around to music in the kitchen but hey whatever floats your boat!)
Paint your nails, pop on a face mask, lie back and chill! If need be run a bubble bath and lock the door…I have kids so I know they will be peering under the door but they aren’t going to grow up to get an ASBO just because you have time out for 10 minutes – CHILL OUT!

Write yourself a letter, tell yourself how fabulous you are! Write down all of the good things you have around you, list those things you are proud of or all of the things you are grateful for in life. Having it written down in front of you makes you realise just how lucky you really are!

True friends are the lifeline we all need, just like you are there for them remember they are always there for you too! Sometimes just hearing their voices can make things look a little brighter, put the world to rights, detail exactly how you would like to bump off that ex and make some plans to get together in the near future!
I’m a sucker for inspirational quotes and books, give me a good line written by someone famous and I can take on the world! A couple of my favourite books include The Secret, The Alchemist and A New World, use a highlighter and brighten those sections that speak to you. Use sticky note and tabs to keep track so you can go back to quotes over and over whenever you need it and always remember…
Whether your interpretation of artsy involves planting something in the garden or getting out the paints, do something today that means you are ‘creating’ something just for you! Something you can look at and know you put your all into, your heart, your attitude, something you will look at and smile knowing YOU MADE THAT. I adore paper crafts so whenever I’m feeling down I get out the papers and go to town, ripping and sticking until i have something in front of me I love – a scrapbook page, handmade card or even just a journal page!
Being nice is good for you – seriously, how often do you get a buzz from saying something nice to someone! Not only are you lifting yourself out of the funk but you’re making someone elses day too! They may be at rock bottom and a kind word or two can totally transform someones day. What you put out into the world comes back threefold so all that positivity you are giving out will come back to you – trust me!
We all have a favourite comedy movie, something that really makes you belly laugh! For me it has to be the old ones – Ferris Buellers Day Off, Coming To America and are just some of the movies I can watch over again yet they always make me laugh. There are of course new ones that never fail to make me laugh too – DeadPool and anything with Melissa McCarthy, that woman has me in hysterics!
Yes Yes Yes! *cough* As well as the obvious health benefits and the fact its bound to make you smile, having sex is a sure fire way to lift you out of that funk! And remember … After orgasm, the hormone prolactin is released, which is responsible for the feelings of relaxation so snuggle up and think about what a fab day its going to be!
After all of that I hope you are feeling better and if you followed all the steps – a whole lot of relaxed too 😉
XOXO
Debbie

Loved this post and so true, simple things that we can do to achieve many things. I am getting out and working out too
I still need to start the working out for this year! lol
You will soon enough, take it one day at a time!
I so needed to read this post right now as feeling in a total funk – great tips here hon x
I think everyone is trying to hard to be a little too enthusiastic at the start of the year! A few good days of self indugence never hurt anyone! lol
I do love a good movie night, I usually get all my friends round and play party games too! 🙂
Oh good idea, a games night sounds like a blast!
Some great ideas of how to improve quality of life this year. I’m hoping to get out more, catch up with old friends and enjoy some me time
Ditto, thanks to this awful weather we are struggling to find decent days to get out for a walk!
Love these ideas! I’m intentionally upping my art game this year as I find it so therapeutic but I’m always reluctant to carve out time for it!
Ditto but I think this year im going to be selfish and just go for it! It makes me happy and i need more of that! 🙂
I would love a good pamper. It’s hard to get going after Christmas
It really is! Its even harder when you have kids and they are at the bathroom door every 5 minutes lol
I hate this new year new you thing. I think it is very overrated and just too many people going on about it. You need to do what you want and when you want it
YES! Its like a blogger must lol
Totally agree with you and love all your suggestions – particularly Movie Night. Bridesmaids and basically anything with Kristen Wiig or Melissa McCarthy makes me laugh out loud!
I love a good chick flick!
Definitely agree that getting out of the house, fresh air and hopefully the sun on your face is the first step.
Now we just need some sun shine! lol
This is an amazing post. Kind of sick of the “New Year, New Me” stuff. We can be who we want whenever we want. The start of a 12 month period shouldn’t be the reason.
Some great things to do to here. Really think it’s important to take time, even if it’s just 5 minutes each day to do something that makes you happy
