Some people love crafting but get intimidated when it come to making things for around their own home. They worry that they won’t make it well enough or that it will look too homemade. But it is actually quite easy to make some professional looking items for your own home. Read on to find out how.
Tire Rope Seats
This is crazy easy to make and works equally well indoors or as outdoor seating for the summer. You will want to bring them inside or store them in the garage over the winter, though so that the rope doesn’t get wet and rot.
All you need to make one seat is an old tire, some twine, some glue and a length of rope. You can get these in the hardware department of shops like George Hill Timber and Building merchants.
First of all, wash the tire off and dry it, you don’t want any mud or dirt getting on the rope. Then take the twine and string it across the gap whether the hubcap would go. This creates the actual seat part and so is pretty important. The stronger you make this, the hardier your seat will be. You can make holes in the tire on the inner rim and thread the twine through so it’s really secure. Try and use twine and not string in case it gets wet. You don’t want it to rot and cause whoever is sitting on the seat to have an accident and fall through the hole!
Then once you have the twine in place, use a glue gun and secure the end of the rope to the bottom of the outside’s tread of the tire. Then all you have to do is wrap the tire in the rope, gluing as you go. When you have wrapped the side of the tire, then you need to go around the top in concentric circles with the rope. This spiral should completely cover all the rubber and twine. Or if you choose to out a wooden cap over the whole in the tire you can start the spiral off in the middle of that first.
Easy Log Side Tables
Have you notice that buying little bit of furniture like side table can be really expensive? If you are sick of paying high prices for tiny bits and bobs to go in your home, maybe making your own would be a better solution?
You can make some cheap and functional and decorative side tables quickly and easily. They will be perfect for perfect for putting your coffee mug on or placing a decorative lamp
First of all, you need to take some old adjustable height stools with a central leg and runners. Remove the actual seat part from the stool, checking that the part that secures the leg to the seat is flat.
Then you can replace the seat with anything that is decorative and will act as a table top. A great way of doing this is to use a slice of log cut through the circumference of the tree. This makes a neutral and attractive table top. You can even varnish it if you like.
Window Photo Frame
Are getting sick and tired of all the boring photos frames out there,? But you don’t want to shell out over the odds for a more interesting one, why not get creative and make your own?
A very easy way to make an original and striking display of family photos for your home is to use an old window pane. Its needs to be a window that has a lot of small panes of glass in it. As this is what you will use to display the photos.
First of all, check out the condition of the frame. If it is rotting or has woodworm, you need to discard it. If it is still in good condition, then sand it down and cover with a light coat of chalk paint. You can use any colour that will fit in with your decor scheme, but white often looks the best against black and white photos.
Then attach the photos to the glass, by gluing around the edges and sticking them to the wooden dividers. You need to be careful that your photos are the right size for this. If they aren’t, you can use a program like Photoshop to manipulate them into fitting the panels. Just remember to print them out onto glossy photo paper for the most professional looking finish.
