Whether you are a keen DIY person or you simply need to keep things ticking over with home improvements, coming up to summer is a great time to get those jobs done. Take care of the indoor jobs whilst it is raining and then get outside on the good weather days to do the garden jobs, then hopefully you will be able to relax when summer eventually arrives! If you are looking for some inspiration on jobs that can make a big impression on your home then here you are:

Exterior paintwork
It is one of those jobs that can take a while but looks so much better when it is complete. You could pay someone to come and do it but why spend money if you have all of the tools that need? Remember to prep your surface before you start painting for a better finish and longer results. It is really important to make sure that you get rid of dirt and any mildew, so if you have a lot of this you might want to consider using a pressure washer to get this removed.Applying a primer layer will also help to protect the surface, meaning you should have a longer period of time before you need to repeat the job!
Replace grass with artificial grass
Lots of people are switching from real grass to artificial grass in their gardens for a number of reasons – Firstly, it is so low maintenance as you will not need to mow it or treat it for moss, replant grass seeds if a patch wears away etc. Also, it can look a lot nicer and feel softer underfoot. If you have kids playing football etc. in the garden then you will know what damage that can do! It might be worth getting a quote from artificial turf installers but you might just as easily be able to do it yourself.

Refresh kitchen cupboards
If you have wooden kitchen cupboards then you can make them look like new with a nice fresh coat of paint. You could try a new colour and also replace the handles/knobs for a completely new look at a very small price. Simply pick up some new cupboard handles from your DIY store and you can quickly have new look kitchen cupboards.
Refresh staircase
When was the last time you updated your staircase? You can refresh it with a small amount of work like a repaint or you could even replace your spindles for a new design, or sand down your balustrade to remove paint and provide a wood finish instead. You could even take up your carpet and have a wooden stair finish to make it look sleeker.
Pressure wash paving
Another easy job that gets great results is pressure washing your outdoor area to clean up dirty paving slabs and remove any dirt and debris that is on your walls and other areas. If you are planning to have a few BBQs this summer then getting your paving looking like new will make a big impression. If you do not own a pressure washer then borrow one or you can even hire one. Alternatively get a pressure washing company to come round and do the job for you with their specialist equipment that will have the job done much quicker. Try to be careful with how much water you use when you are using a pressure washer – you can buy certain ones that require less water. Think about your water charges as well as the environment!
