…and with that little revelation I thought I would give a quick run down of some of the events taking place across Durham and the surrounding area this Christmas! Be quick though as some places are already fully booked!
From the 12th of November you can blow your own Christmas bauble at the National Glass Centre in Sunderland. During the workshop you will create a beautiful glass bauble to hang on your Christmas tree or giveaway as a gift. Using a variety of coloured glass you can personalise your design before blowing down the ‘iron’to see your bauble come to life! Priced at £25 per person and with a minimum age of 12 this promises to be a family tradition we will be doing each year.
Every year we say we will take the kids on the Polar Express and every year we miss the boat (..train, whatever!) as the dates sell out really quickly! Based on the hugely successful movie of the same name, children arrive in their pyjamas to board the Express train! Sipping hot chocolate while watching the dancing interactive chefs, little ones get to have their Polar Express golden ticket punched and listen to the story being read aloud while enjoying a journey to the North Pole (by magic!)
Tickets are already sold out for most of December so as long as you want to start your festivities early get booked up quickly! Priced at £18 per child and £23 per adult this isn’t a cheap night but will certainly fill your family with Christmas cheer!
The Childrens Gingerbread House Masterclass at Wynard Gardens looks amazing and I know Evie being the little baker that she is will love this! This event is to place on Sunday 4th December between 10am – 12pm and 1pm – 3pm. Little ones get to construct and decorate their very own gingerbread house with help from a Wynyard Hall chef. Tickets must be pre-booked online. Suitable for children aged 3 years +. All materials are provided.
Priced at £15 Per Child (Accompanying Adults FREE) I think is very reasonable since you would pay that for a shop bought Gingerbread house and this way you get to create one with your little ones! This is definitely on our list this year!
During December Beamish will open its doors on Thursday and Friday nights to host Christmas evenings! Visit Father Christmas in his wonderful fireside Grotto, meet his magic reindeer and browse the market stalls for that perfect gift.
Take a turn on the real ice rink*, indulge yourself with roasted chestnuts and mulled wine and enjoy entertainment from the times. Prices are £13 per adult and £13 per child (the child price is plus a visit to Santas Grotto). Well worth booking ahead as again tickets are selling out quickly and a few days are already sold out!
There may be 100 days until Christmas but if you are wanting to take part in some of the events you really need to be getting booked up NOW!
