Bathrooms can be a haven of relaxation and a place where you can de-stress after a long day. There are lots of tips online about how you can create great bathroom designs, but one aspect which can often get overlooked is how important lighting in your bathroom is.
Getting the lighting right can really help create a lovely atmosphere when you’re trying to relax in your bathroom. It can also help enhance the features of your bathroom and make the room a more vibrant and enjoyable place to be. However, if the lighting is too bright in your bathroom, it can become overwhelming. This is made worse by the light colours often used in bathrooms.
There are lots of ways that bathroom lighting can be improved, and when you look into it, some of the solutions are really creative and look great! In this post we’re going to talk about some of the ways you can enhance the lighting in your bathroom to really make the bathroom stand out.
Candles
While some of the lighting solutions on this list go unmentioned, one which is often included in articles about bathrooms is candles. Not only do they create a lovely scent which you can tailor to your preferences with the extensive range now available, but they’re also great for creating calming and relaxing environments.
While scented candles are great, having too many of them can create an overpowering smell in your bathroom which will not be relaxing. To work around this tealights are great as they are often un-scented, and you can buy a large number for not very much. You can turn your electric lights out and then dot some tealights around your bathroom to create a lovely warm glow.
Rooflights
Depending on the layout of your home and bathroom, adding a rooflight can be a great way of bringing more natural light into your bathroom. A common issue with bathroom windows is that for privacy reasons they’re often small and translucent. This can significantly reduce the amount of natural light that comes into bathrooms.
A COXDOME fixed pyramid rooflight is a great way around this. Because of the angle the window is placed at, it often cuts out any lines of sight, it can give you the privacy you need in a bathroom. This allows you to have a transparent glass rooflight to let lots of natural light into your bathroom. If you do need more privacy, it’s easy to fit a retractable blind. Depending on the structural and design layout of your home, you can sometimes position the rooflight to give you a direct view of the sky while relaxing in the bath or shower.
Hidden lighting
While lighting has traditionally been visible and some people even make it into a feature with chandeliers, the bathroom is one room where more discrete lighting can work well. As bathrooms are often smaller rooms, having lights which don’t stand out and make the room feel cluttered can help make the room feel bigger.
While it can be challenging to fit hidden lights to an existing bathroom, it’s definitely something you should keep in mind if you’re redesigning your bathroom. A great place to add lights is around a mirror as they give great even light to your face when getting ready in front of the mirror.
