How is it almost the end of December already, 3 days until the man in red arrives and today the final day the children are at school this year. This year seems to have passed in a blur as we have had so much heartbreak and sadness as well as new beginnings and fresh starts. I have been tagged by the lovely Scandi Mummy to do The Christmas Tag and you can find her answers HERE too.
Whats your favourite Christmas movie?
Every year without fail I watch Scrooged! It is one of those movies that makes you laugh, makes you cry and makes you realise that no matter how you wrap up the words, the sentiment of the season is the same… its about what you have not what you want or can get. Its not about presents really, its about the time with loved ones and making memories.
Have you ever had a white Christmas?
YES! I can remember being younger and having a white Christmas most years. It makes me sad that the kids don’t get to experience Christmases like we did, there was something magical about waking up and everything being white – the glistening of the snow and knowing that Santa would have had his work cut out travelling through it during the night. Now all they get is a smattering of the white stuff at best 🙁
Where do you usually spend your holiday?
At home, always at home now! We spent so many years trying to keep everyone else happy then a few years ago realised that the kids were happy when we had nothing to do during the day except play with their toys and just be together. No travelling around or visiting relatives etc, we save that for boxing day and the day after. Christmas day is ours now.
Whats your favourite Christmas song?
I have always been a Mariah Carey and Wham fan so I would have to go with All I Want For Christmas Is You and Last Christmas. Amelia did a mean rendition of AIWFCIY this year with nursery – actions and everything, way too cute!
Do you open any presents on Christmas Eve?
One! After being in the bath there is a gift on the bottom of the kids beds, new pjs and some chocolate which means they are ready for Santa to arrive. We have done this every year since Ben was born 21 years ago!
Can you name all of Santas reindeer?
Of course…Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen…..and Rudolf! 😉
What holiday traditions are you looking forward to this year?
Hot turkey sandwiches on Christmas eve, we did that from when I was small so is one we have carried on. I always look forward to the Christmas Eve pjs opening as it marks the first gifts and to see the excitement from the kids is just too cute!
Is your Christmas tree real of fake?
Hmm, this year its a tricky one as with everything going on we don’t actually have a proper tree this year, we have a little 3ft one i used for photographs so we have piled all the decorations on there and will go all out next year! I’m thinking real!
What is your favourite holiday food/sweet/treat?
As I am on Slimming World this year I have not had as many treats as usual, normally Lidls Christmas selection takes a hammering but those cinnamon biscuits with the apricot filling have not even entered the house let alone my tummy! lol I am however looking forward to my Christmas pudding this year!
Be honest! Do you prefer giving or receiving gifts?
GIVING! Seriously, I would rather not have any presents at all if it meant I could give everything I wanted to others. The thrill of seeing them get what they want and what they would love makes Christmas for me.
What is the best present you have ever received?
I think I would have to say Ethan being born 5 days early, he was due Christmas day 2004 and arrived on the 20th. This of course meant I was home with my new baby and still got Christmas dinner! lol
What is your dream place to visit for the holidays?
It would have to be New York! I think i have seen every holiday movie set in NY so to go there and see it all for myself would be a dream come true.
Are you a pro present wrapper or do you fail miserably?
I LOVE IT! Seriously, a glass of Baileys, candles lit and enough wrapping paper to cover the world twice over! Lets get this party started!
What is your most memorable Christmas memory?
I would have to go with Benjamins first, we went completely overboard with way too much and he never played with half of it! We had so much fun though and realised then what a family Christmas really means!
What made you realise the truth about Christmas?
I am not sure! I can’t remember when I stopped believing and know that the girls still do – Evie is 7 and knowing that the whole belief may be coming to an end soon makes me sad.
What makes the holidays special for you?
FAMILY! Its all about the kids. Finding new traditions, making memories and just being together!
All of the photographs are from the past couple of years and ones that make me smile so thought worth re sharing.
I will tag the lovely Lauren, Caroline and Suzanne to tell us about their Christmases, I know it’s short notice to get it done before Christmas ladies, sorry!
XOXO
Debbie
