We all hope to find our forever home, I never realised what that was when we got our first house and to be honest we treat it more like a roof over our heads than a home. Yes we bought nice things and enjoyed living there but I never once thought we would stay there forever.
Whether it is because I am older and wiser now or because I have actually found somewhere I love but I feel like this could be my forever home and I really want to make some changes to show that I am here for the long haul. Adding pieces that are permanent and will stand the test of time.
I have always wanted a spiral staircase. Something that is a centerpiece to the hallway and a focal point without taking up too much space, spiral staircases have that olde world feel to them. Looking through a number of staircase manufacturers I love that I can choose pretty much all of the materials and they will be made to order, I can just imagine having a glass and metal combo that wouldn’t look out of place in a french chateaux. Due to more and more people buying and designing their own homes from scratch I really do feel that there will be a huge surge of designer metal spiral stairs in the UK – having something you can have designed specifically for your home makes me really excited!

Another major investment would be in my kitchen, I would love to have solid marble worktops and a huge Belfast sink! I have always wanted a big kitchen with double doors over looking a flower filled garden, decking reaching out so that the doors could be flung open integrating the outside with the kitchen itself. An island in the middle of the room where the children could sit and do their school work while I make lunch or dinner. The Belfast sink, I would even give up having a dishwasher if I could have such a pretty sink, would have one of those large mixer taps that never seem too hot or too cold. Oh, and one of those boiled water taps over the cooker so that pans could be filled without lifting to the sink!

My final statement piece I would love and have always wanted is a stable door! Imagine the sun shining, the kids playing outside and a garden full of flowers and birds chirping! I have a complete image of me standing leaning on the half open door looking out, cup of tea in hand and knowing all is well in the world (ok so slight over thought but there are times when it feels exactly that way!) I have always wanted to own my own farm but know I don’t have the discipline for the early morning late night routines so a stable door might just be as close as I can get!
What would you do to your home if you knew you were living there forever? Do you have a wish list of major improvements you would make?
XOXO
Debbie
