Its been so long since we were at the MetroCentre in Gateshead so when the opportunity arose for us to review the new Slim Chickens restaurant we of course said yes! I’m honest in my reviews and have to admit we hadn’t even heard of it before so were not sure what to expect.
Looking at the menu it seems like an American chicken diner and that really is the feel of it too once inside. Super easy to find as it is located just inside the food court, yellow section of the MetroCentre.
The whole restaurant was clean and tidy and the staff were welcoming and helpful. We ordered one of the 3 & 3 piece meals where you get 3 tenders and 3 wings (with a choice of sauce coating – we opted for honey bbq). I knew we were going to try the deep fried pickles but were unsure what else to go for. The lady that served us was super helpful and pointed out the we needed to try to fried onions and coleslaw alongside the Texas Toast and macaroni cheese. The drinks were chose were bottomless coke and a Biscoff Milkshake. The thickest and most Biscoff milkshake we have ever tried!
Everything arrived very quickly and was piping hot. We were given more than enough dips as each side came with its own little tub. The ranch was amazing and the cheesy garlic dip was the best I have had in a long time.
The pickles were everything I expected! Oh my lord, those fried onions are the side of dreams too. Salty, crunchy and everything you would imagine – and so much of it concidering it was only £3 for this big basket!
The sauce used on the chicken wings was a delicious mix of honey and bbq – sweet and smoky!
There was so much food we had to ask for boxes to bring what was left home with us.
Overall we were super happy with both the service and food at Slim Chickens. We will most definitely be back soon for more of those pickles and milkshake!
