When the seasons change, it’s also nice to make a change in the home. Suddenly, you’ll find yourself wanting lighter colours to go with the lighter days and craving the warmth and sunshine inside as well as out. If you’re ready to bring a bit of Summer into your home, here are a few interior design tips to get you there.
Ombre artwork
The great thing about Summer is that it brings out all the beautiful colours we miss during the Winter. The vibrant colours of flowers, lush green grass and deep blue seas are just some of the things we miss during the colder months. If you want to add a splash of new and bright colour to your walls it doesn’t have to be difficult. Ombre artwork is something you can even have a go at yourself. Just get yourself a canvas and a few coloured paints on the same colour spectrum and you’re ready to create a masterpiece.
Nautical themes
It’s a tried and tested design for Summer time and it never fails. We all want a room where we can relax and picture ourselves on a hot beach next to a cool, blue sea. Whether it’s your bathroom, guest room or bedroom, a nautical theme is always easy to achieve. Hang a mirror by a thick rope, fill glass jars with seashells or sand and add touches of yellow and blue in your accessories. It will work year after year, so don’t throw anything away!
Add some shutters
Although it’s lovely to bask in the heat of the sun, there are times when you want to come inside and block the sun out. Whether it’s for the purposes of relaxing or cooling the room down, hardwood plantation shutters will work brilliantly. Not only do they block out the sun when you really need them to, they also give the room a Mediterranean vibe that all your visitors will love.
Citrus colours
Think lemon, lime and orange. There’s never a better time to express yourself with these vibrant colours than during Summer. You can do as much or as little as you like. From subtle nods to citrus in your accessories, to full blown appreciation like painting your kitchen chairs or other furniture in the home. If you want to take a leaf out of the book of Spanish interior design, hang a few paintings of citrus fruits in a bowl in your kitchen.
Bold patterns and fabrics
Are you sick of looking at the same cushions on your sofas or the same throws on your beds? Now is the time to make a bold statement by going for patterned cushions and strong fabrics. Don’t be afraid to go for something out of the ordinary. That’s exactly what you should be looking for! Remember, you won’t be spending as much time on the sofa as you did through the Winter, so now is your time to use it as a way of expressing your personality.
Celebrate Summer inside as well as outside!
