If there is one thing the kids love than the beach… its rock pooling at the beach and on our list of things to do this summer was spend more time outdoors and at the seaside!
Our nearest beach is at Seaham and having been born in the area it is always our first port of call when we need some peace and calm bringing back.

On the weekend of Sunderland Air Show we decided to give the noise and bustle of the show a miss and head to the beach instead…thankfully it was not too busy either so the kids had more than enough chance to explore and run amok!

The tide was really far out which make for amazing finds and the boys loved discovering secret pockets in the rocks which hid crabs, fish and starfish. Surprisingly enough there were masses of dead crabs, the boys collected around 30 altogether placing them in a bag to take home (needless to say that bag made a detour and never arrived home! eww stinky fish is not a good smell!!)

The starfish were a different matter…very much alive and moving, we found a family of 4 all together in a little rock pool, the girls wouldn’t hold them but the boys did!

When it came to the water I told them they could roll up their trousers and paddle…OK a little higher but no more… oh sod it go on then!
At one point they were swimming fully clothed much to the amusement of passers by! Since we hadn’t planned anything more than paddling we had one towel between all 5 if them and once Amelia saw her big brothers and sisters in the water she wanted in on the action too!
A little afraid at first but soon loving it just as much as her siblings – its a wonderful feeling being beside the edge of the water and I think Amelia really does have the seaside bug too! We are all looking forward to heading back very soon!
