We have missed out on so much thanks to Covid so I am going to be bringing you a few different posts that detail how we can make the most of the seasons without leaving the house!
We are obsessed with Halloween in our house so love dressing up and making such a fuss. There is something so special about making memories throughout the year and what better way to mark the occasion than with a spook infested party!
Ok lets get started with one of the most important aspects of any spooky party, the decorations…
Decorate:
Since we are a ‘dark home’ family we have most of our spooky stuff out all year round. Anyone who follows me on Instagram will know my love of pumpkins. I do have glass ones that are out all year round. Some hanging decorations like cobwebs and cutesy ghosts etc will set the scene without being too scary for little ones.
Of course if it is an adult party you can go a little more wild! I have seen lots of severed limbs and bloody appendages in the shops this year! Next year you could even have the memories hung around the house to show what a great party it was! How about a poster printing service that can bring those memories to life!
Dress.
Part of the fun of a party is dressing up! For Halloween you can go all out with the dark gothic make up too. Enlarge those wings on your eyes and use an eye liner pen to draw a cobweb or two on your cheeks. If you are going as a witch remember the green face paint and those black warts – stereotypes are abound at this time of year so no offence taken!
There are lots of stores selling dress up outfits but a simple black dress and dark make up can transform you into Morticia Adams in a snap! Part hair down the middle and plait it – voila Wednesday Adams or part short hair and draw on a little mustache. You have the new Adams family baby! Someone could wear a long wig and be cousin IT!
Before you know it, its a themed party and you have everyone there to create some fabulous photographs!
Food.
Themed foods are great because you get to be creative. Remember your mum saying ‘never play with your food’, well now is the chance to go wild! Cupcakes with severed fingers made from marzipan, eggs with an olive attached are perfect eyeballs. Crumbled oreos make ideal soil and throw in some gummy worms and a cardboard mini gravestone (easily made with a little grey card and some imagination) and you have your own graveyard!
Drink.
Pop a drop of food colouring in the bottom of glasses before the guests arrive then surprise them with your magic when you pour in lemonade. Each drink will fill as a different colour! Obviously just be careful if anyone has an intolerance to food colourings etc.
