Your children will be naturally curious about the world around them, and that curiosity can lead to a healthy interest in science. To encourage that scientific curiosity, I’ve had help from a Junior School in the Cotswolds to show you how you can raise a science lover!
Encourage Their Curiosity
Whenever your child notices something in the natural or scientific world, always encourage them to ask questions and stoke the flames of their curiosity. Whenever they come to you with a question that you don’t know the answer to, look up the answer together, showing that you yourself are interested in learning and finding out answers to the unknown questions out there.
Get Outside
Getting in touch with nature is a very easy way to help your children become more interested in science. The natural world will bring up many questions about science, and seeing science in action in nature is a beautiful way to bring the subject to life, as well as give your children a greater appreciation for the world around them.
Science Through Play
Playing with toys like building blocks, play dough or modelling clay can help your children engage with science in a very fun and informal manner. It allows them to experiment with different materials and textures, to see physics in action, as well as explore ideas of cause and effect.
Set Up Experiments
Remember all those fun science projects you did at school, like a bottle rocket or a foaming volcano? Why not do some of those fun, easy and safe experiments in your own home and bring science eot life in an exciting manner outside of the classroom?
Show That Science Is Everywhere
Express to your children that science can be found in literally everything. From making dinner, to using a computer, to rain falling from the sky, science is everywhere. The more you bring that to their attention, the more they will realise how important science is in everyday life, and spark a deeper interest in the subject.
