I can remember being little and thinking my gran was always a little old lady. In reality she will have been in her 50’s. I AM NOW 50! How the heck did that happen and I’m sure I don’t look like the little housecoat, hair roller, face powder using lady that my granny always was!
I am however going through menopause and know that with the changing times there are things I can do to help stall the aging process. Or at least if I don’t stall it I can help feel the best I can.
Upon researching what I can do to help myself, I found that there are 2 supplements that can play a significant role in supporting health during menopause, biotin and iron. Both of these nutrients offer unique benefits that can enhance overall well-being, making them valuable additions to a my daily routine.
Biotin is a water-soluble B vitamin (B7) that plays a crucial role in converting food into energy and is essential for maintaining healthy skin, hair, and nails. One thing I have noticed is that my hair is thinner than it ever was. I was known for having a mass of hair and although I’m not losing any, it certainly has lost its volume. Biotin can help combat hair thinning thankfully. Additionally, as hormonal changes during menopause can lead to skin dryness and loss of elasticity, biotin can support skin health by promoting hydration and a youthful appearance which is always welcome! I have spent a fortune on lotions over the years so knowing I’m working at it from the inside out gives me peace of mind too.
Incorporating Naked biotin into my daily routine has be straightforward. I choose to take biotin supplements in the form of a capsule.
Of course supplements only work alongside a good balanced diet. Biotin is present in various foods, including eggs, nuts, seeds, and whole grains so I have increased these in my diet. Starting the day with a breakfast that includes eggs or nut butter on whole-grain toast is an excellent way to boost biotin levels too.
Iron, on the other hand, is vital for the production of hemoglobin, which carries oxygen in the blood. I have had 6 children and been prescribed iron tablets often over the years. I know now when my levels are dipping as I feel lethargic and stressed.
Post-menopausal women often face a risk of iron deficiency due to changes in dietary habits and the cessation of menstruation. Iron supplements are a great solution to help restore adequate levels, improving energy and overall vitality.
To incorporate iron into a daily routine, supplements are available in various forms, I chose to take Naked Daily Iron Supplements capsules. It’s essential to consult with a healthcare provider before starting iron supplements, as excessive iron intake can be harmful. Pairing iron supplements with vitamin C-rich foods (such as citrus fruits or bell peppers) can enhance absorption, making it beneficial to include these foods during meals when taking iron.
The benefits of taking biotin and iron supplements for those over 50 and during menopause extend beyond just physical health. Both nutrients can enhance mood and cognitive function, which can be impacted by hormonal changes and aging. Biotin, for instance, is believed to support brain health, while adequate iron levels are crucial for preventing fatigue and maintaining mental clarity.
I have found that by prioritizing these supplements I feel more energetic and thankfully my hair and nails are looking better too. I am currently actively trying to lose weight too so it is nice to see those non scale victories. I really do think they will contribute to an huge boost in my confidence and give me more energy to carry on an active life with my little ones and the grandkids.
I am sure that my fifties are going to be amazing and life is just starting. I have so many plans for this year and those to come and can’t wait to see what the future has in store. By making simple adjustments, such as a nutritious breakfast and mindful supplementation, I have realised I can make a significant difference in quality of life during these transformative years. Bring it on!
