We have always taught the children to ride their bikes starting with ones that have trainer wheels, stabilisers or simply 3 wheel bikes/trikes. Amelia has never really shown any interest in having a bike at all as she is more a scooter girl but lately she has been playing with the bikes at school and is super unsteady. We wanted her to branch out into learning how to ride at home but then we were faced with problem of what to get to help her.
The thing with 3 wheel trikes etc is that they don’t teach stability.

We have bought Amelia a cupcake bike from Halfords for Christmas with some vouchers I won and Kiddies Kingdom were kind enough to send us a Chicco Pink Arrow balance bike to get her use to the wobbles before Santa brings her pressie!

The bike came in a reasonable size box and was super simple to build up, it was just a case of pushing pieces together and fastening with an allen key. The seat is adjustable and we hadn’t realised just how short her legs are so it needed to be pretty low.

Her eyes lit up when she saw the bike and she didn’t even mention that there were no peddles, she jumped straight on and was off down the path. Because of the fact she has to use her feet to stabilise herself she soon got to grips with how to right herself once she started to tip. Before long she was flying around with her legs out in front of her – we have never used a balance bike before but I would highly recommend them, so much more than a trike as it seemed to benefit her confidence so much!

We can’t wait to see her when she opens her bike at Christmas and thanks to her Pink Arrow I imagine she is going to be breaking some speed barriers in no time!
