Having moved almost 3 months ago I am finally starting to see the light and put things in places they feel they should be. Does that make sense? Sometimes I have a move round with the furniture and something just clicks – its as though its finally in the place it was meant to be!
Take the living room furniture for example, when I came to view the house I had an image of how it should look and I decorated according to how that image was in my head. Last week though I fancied a change around and swapped the sofa with the big lounge chair and put a rug in place – voila… the room instantly looks twice as big, feels more homely and suddenly it feels more like, well, home!
A few other things I have popped around the house, mainly in my bedroom and living room, to make it feel more like me are candles, throws and flowers. I am a huge shabby chic lover at heart and the whole Hygge phenomenon has been going on for years under my roof without even knowing about it!
Faux or fresh I have to have flowers in every room! I love the vibrant colours of carnations and gerbera, the cool tones of lillies and daisies – the scent of fresh flowers too is something that can fill a room! I very rarely receive flowers so always feel like I am treating myself or rewarding myself when I do buy flowers, even more so if I have them delivered! There is nothing as special as having flowers turn up on the doorstep and having the neighbours wondering who sent them – they don’t need to know and its good to keep them guessing where the international flowers delivery is come from!
At the moment I am loving the Jo Malone dupe candles from Aldi and at a budget worthy £3.99 they really do smell just like the real thing and at a fraction (and i mean teeny fraction!) of the price. I bought the Pomegranate No 3 and love it so will definitely be trying out the other scents.
B&M is my go to place for throws and cushions and I managed to pick up a beautiful stag fleece cushion and almost co-ordinating blanket to match. The lemon colours pop because of the rug I have in the living room and the greys fit perfect with the other 50 shades of it in my living room. Sitting watching tv there is nothing nicer than snuggling under a fluffy blanket while sharing a carton of popcorn catching up on box sets! It’s hot chocolate weather too so bring on the marshmallows!
How do you make your house feel like a home?
Do you change the furnishings or accessories with the season?
XOXO
