If there is one thing I always add to gifts or take parties it is a bottle of wine. It always goes down a treat and with Mother’s day hitting on the same day the clocks go back I think a glass or two might be in order. Here is my run down of a few of my favourites for celebrating.
Canevel Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG from Oakham Wines retailing at £17.95. This is excellent as an aperitif. Lovely with soups, chicken and fresh cheeses and seafood dishes such as fish risotto. A perfect light white that has a nose of apple, wisteria and acacia.
Tesco Finest Saint Mont 2016, £6.00. A blend of 4 local French grapes bursts with flavours of grapefruit, sun ripened apricots, peach juice and quince. Again this works great as an aperitif and goes well with starters, Comté or Pyrenean cheeses and fish and seafood dishes.
The Ned Pinot Grigio 2018, available from Majestic at £10.99 a bottle or £7.99 each if purchasing 6. This is a salmon pink wine and the colour is obtained from the extended contact of the pink-skinned grapes. A nose of pear drops, white blossom and nectarine leading to a rich and soft palate, slightly tropical, with a smooth finish. This will taste great alongside fresh salads and creamy pastas.
The Ned Pinot Rose 2017, again from Majestic retailing at £12.99 a bottle or £8.99 if purchasing 6. A wonderfully scented rosé of red berry compote and watermelon with subtle woody notes of sun-warmed raspberry canes with crisp acid edges. Ideal on its own or with fish pie and creamy salmon.
La Boheme Act 4 Syrah Gamay 2017 from Oxford Wine at £14.99. This lighter red from Australia offers lots of juicy cherries, a little raspberry and a decent helping of spice. Wonderful with a rack of pork, roasted with rosemary or a slowly cooked chicken or turkey dish.
El Tesoro de las Montanas 2016 from Ocado at £8.99. This splendid dark crimson red has aromas of ripe black fruit, leather and tobacco spice. Full bodied with flavours of blackberry, damson spice and notes of pepper and cinnamon. Ideal with stews, red meats and rich dishes.
If you are making mum her Sunday lunch there is something that will accompany the meal perfectly above, whether you are serving up chicken, beef or veggie I think I have covered all options!
XOXO
Debbie
