There’s no doubt that exercising and living an active life is one of the most important things that you can do. After all, many of us spend our days either sitting at desks or sitting on the sofa so taking the time to live a more active life whenever possible is pretty much essential. However, the mistake that a lot of people tend to make is that they assume that working out is going to instantly solve all of their problems. Of course, this just isn’t the case. You’re not going to instantly become healthier and achieve the body you really want the moment you start living an active lifestyle. This can potentially lead to two different outcomes. It can leave some people discouraged but others will use this to push themselves even harder.

Now, you might think that this second thing is a more positive outcome and, to an extent, it can be. However, the truth is that there are just as many dangers involved in trying to push yourself through workouts that don’t seem to be working then you might expect. With that in mind, here are just a few ways in which your workout might be putting your health at risk.
Overexercising
This is one of those things that actually seems rather obvious once you think about it for a while but most people tend not to even consider it. After all, surely the more you work out, with say resistance bars, then the more intense the impact of that workout is going to be, right? Well, that’s not actually the case. There are a couple of reasons for this. For one thing, you actually build most of your muscle during rest periods so if you never rest you’re never going to be able to get the most out of your workout. Not only that but overexercising is very likely to lead to increased tension in your muscles, greatly increasing your risk of injury.
Poor form
In the same way that too much working out can damage your body, the same can be said for working out in the wrong way. The truth is that you can’t just throw yourself into specific workouts and expect perfect results if you’re not making the effort to get your form right. This is especially true for things like high-impact workouts and weight training. If you’re lifting and your form is wrong then not only are you not putting the strain on the right muscles to achieve your goals, but you’re also putting a potential strain on areas of your body that could wind up getting seriously hurt. From lifting with your back instead of your legs to twisting your muscles in dangerous directions, poor form when you’re working out can have some seriously disastrous consequences.
Substance abuse
For some people, it can be seriously upsetting to see the work their putting into their active lifestyle seemingly going to waste. This can lead to some people looking for shortcuts. This is where people end up falling into things like steroids or diet pills that can have a potentially disastrous impact on your health. Now, that’s not to say that there aren’t any things can help your workout. Things like prohormones have a lot more evidence behind them and are shown to be a whole lot safer than many other workout supplements. But the key is to make sure that you od your research and you never put anything into your body if you don’t know where it came from.
Dysmorphia
When most people think of something like body dysmorphia, they think about people starving themselves until they pretty much waste away. However, it’s important to understand that the same symptoms can appear for those who work out every day. Orthorexia is a disorder in which people obsess overeating “healthy” foods and working out to the point that it actually starts to have a negative impact on their health. Losing perspective in this way is every bit as harmful if it pushes yourself to work out non-stop as it is if it makes you want to avoid eating or working out altogether.
The truth is that working out is just like any other part of your life: it can be an incredibly positive thing as long as you don’t go overboard. In the same way that there’s nothing wrong with plenty of kinds of foods, going overboard can have some serious consequences. The thing to remember is that, as with everything in your life, it’s essential that you figure out the right balance so that your workout routine doesn’t take over your life and start potentially doing you some damage. The key to all things in life is moderation.
