A lot goes on in the kitchen. You cook here, catch up with loved ones, work from home, play games, and do other things – in lots of cases, the kitchen is truly the hub of the home. But what if yours is lacking something and just doesn’t have that feel yet? You can work towards making your own kitchen the hub of the home. Read on to find out what you should be doing to make this happen:
If you want to make your kitchen more modern, social, and the certified ‘hub’ of the home, then you can’t really get away from the idea of a kitchen island. The kitchen island allows you to prepare food while you chat to your loved ones, and you can add bar stools to make it a casual place to sit and chat. Remember to keep it nice and open. You may want to look at decorating an open plan kitchen-diner to get an idea of what you could do with your kitchen.
See if you can make the kitchen cosy – a hard, sterile looking kitchen is unlikely to become the hub of the home. Take a look at adding various textures, perhaps in the form of textured paint or exposed brick. Remember to have comfortable seating available where you can eat. Adding lots of beautiful plants is also a good idea. They look fantastic and will help to purify the air. Leafy plants add texture, too.
Always make your kitchen child friendly. Try to get down to their level and put locks on cupboards, cover up corners, and ensure that no disasters can happen. You will still need to supervise them, however – it only takes one second for a child to reach up and pull a pan off the stove.
Don’t allow your kitchen to look like any old kitchen out of a magazine. Bring in some personality by showing off your hobbies, pictures of people you love, and even pictures your kids have created for you. It doesn’t need to be perfect, just let people know that you live there!
Try to clear clutter and make sure that it can stay that way. Storage is so important for the aesthetic and functionality of your kitchen. Make sure the storage works for you. Some people like to have clear cabinets so they can see what’s inside, while others like to keep their items tucked away out of site. Sliding storage can be a great way to avoid taking up any more space. Make sure everything has a place and commit to keeping it there.

Having smaller zones available will make your kitchen far more usable!
