We NEED to instil a sense of value in our children!
This has been playing on my mind since yesterdays court verdict regarding Kesha and after seeing those photographs of her sobbing and knowing she has to work for another 6 albums with her accused abuser, well my heart just breaks and I need to get this down on ‘paper’. I may ramble!
With the battle for headlines being ever more in the gutter you read so many stories about people who just don’t care. Who don’t give a damn what their kids are up to, you most certainly hear horror stories of neglect and lack of parenting that it makes you scared to think of the generations ahead.
Thankfully the majority of people actually want children because they love kids, they love nurturing and helping them grow! They simply love guiding and watching them become valuable in whatever they choose to do, whatever they decide to be and whatever direction life takes them! Whether that be their sexual orientation, religion, political stance or where ever the hell they wish to go, you support them WHATEVER! They get to a certain age when you know what, we do step back! We have pride in the fact we have brought them up with a good and kind heart and say ‘go for it kid – I’ve done my bit, now its your turn’ and know that you have taught them the difference between right and wrong! Knowing you helped mould that person and help them become exactly who they are is a pretty overwhelming feeling and one not for the faint hearted!
We certainly didn’t know what was ahead for us when we first saw each other. We met, fell in love and were planning our engagement within a week. Talk of babies soon followed and almost to the day we met our first child was born! Now for those not too good at maths – yes we were expecting within 3 months of meeting (gasp!) The story of how we ended up with 6 children is a cute read and is here if you are interested.
With 4 boys and 2 girls, ages ranging from nearly 2 to almost 20, we have been through every scenario available! We pride ourselves that we can take the children out for meals and they get complimented on their behaviour, that they say please and thank you even when we aren’t in ear shot, that they are becoming great all round open minded human beings and that we had a huge something to do with that! We have brought the boys up to have respect for both their fellow man and for women and that when someone says no it means NO.
There is no grey area….NO, simple as that!
Our girls are only 5 and 1 and it scares me that money and power seems to play a huge part in the world they are growing up in. We will teach them that they can do whatever they want to, that they can be whatever they want to be, dress however they wish to dress and most of all that they can say whatever they want to say. We want our girls to have voices and we want to know people will listen!
We ALL need to listen!
No means NO!

YES Debs! I love this post – being a mummy to a two year old daughter myself this post resonates with me even more. All we can do is teach right from wrong, good manners and acceptable behaviours, and the rest is up to them. Whether my girl wants to run for prime minister or stack shelves in Tesco I’ll support her no matter what because she is her own wonderful, beautiful person. Fab post hun xx
