Everyone is becoming more and more conscious of their impact on the environment. Whether is swapping their plastic bags for something reusable, recycling cans, glass jars and plastic cartons, or just using less water. We’re all being told that we need to reduce our plastic waste and our carbon footprints.
Not only can we all do a little more to help protect the environment, but if you make a few clever swaps, you can not only save the planet, but also a little money as well! Take a look at these simple swaps you can do right now!

Lighting
We’re all told to switch the lights off when we leave the room and switch to energy saving bulbs. But have you thought about switching to LEDs? LED’s such as GU10 LED bulbs pay for themselves after 5 months. They’re also 80% more efficient than traditional lighting in the home such as fluorescent and incandescent lights. Unlike their traditional counterparts, LED lights don’t have any toxic elements, which means that disposing of them is easier and won’t cause any harm to the environment. They also look really stylish too! And many new build homes opt for LED lighting because they not only look good but perform well.
Your toothbrush
You should be replacing your toothbrush every three months. So that’s quite a lot of toothbrushes that get thrown away in a lifetime! Toothbrushes can’t be reused or recycled so they go straight to landfill, so around 2billion toothbrushes end up in landfill annually. The swap? Switch to a bamboo toothbrush instead! Bamboo toothbrushes perform just as well as their plastic counterparts; their sleek and smooth handle is fully decomposable, and the sleek finish makes them more comfortable to use. Their bristles (available in lots of different colours) are BPA free.
Menstrual Cups
Ladies sanitary items range from incredibly cheap (where quality can be an issue) to big brand names where the cost skyrockets. Having a period isn’t cheap, but there is an alternative to the traditional tampons and pads option. Menstrual Cups are really popular right now and even though they’ve been on the market for years, many women can’t believe they haven’t heard of them until now! Menstrual cups are worn internally, are comfortable, discreet and simply collect the blood which you can empty out at your earliest convenience. They can be worn overnight, for 12 hours, there are no limitations with what you can do. They also last forever, which means you’ll never need to buy boxes and boxes of tampons or pads again!
Second hand
Shopping thriftily and second hand is not only great for the environment, but great for your purse too! Log on to sites like eBay and you can buy a whole new outfit for a few pounds. Head to a charity or thrift shops and you can even give back to your chosen charity or good cause at the same time. If you need to pick up a gift or two – then it’s a great place to go shopping!
XOXO
