I don’t usually follow trends. I don’t go out of my way to make my house Instagram friendly. All I want is to make my house feel like a home, inside and out. However, I do like to see what people are doing in their homes and gardens for inspiration. It’s good to see other people’s ideas and creations, don’t you think?
One thing I need inspiration for is my outdoor space. I want to get it ready for the warm summer days. I want to make it welcoming for my friends and family. So, it’s time to spruce it up! What better way to refresh your garden than to look at what others are doing in their outdoor spaces for inspiration? As I’ve been looking for ideas for my own garden, I’ve put together some of my favourite outdoor trends that will hopefully give you some inspiration too.

Create an outdoor retreat.
Outdoor spaces turned into a safe haven for many during lockdown. A place where we could enjoy the outdoors from the safety of our home. A place to unwind after a long day looking at a computer. At least, that’s how I feel. So, creating an outdoor retreat that allows me to make the most out of my outdoor area is a fantastic idea and a trend that I might actually follow (for once!).

Australian Retractable Roofs Sydney Designer Shade Solutionscreate these outdoor retreats that allow homeowners to enjoy their gardens, terraces and patios all-year-round, no matter the weather. How lovely does that sound? These are modern pergolas with a retractable roof that easily opens, closes and tilts, depending on if you want to fully enjoy the weather, shelter from the rain or simply want some shade.

As Luxirare explains, “These retractable roofs can be installed in the middle of your garden as a fabulous centrepiece or attached to your property as an extension of your current living space.” I like both ideas but having an extension to my house where I could enjoy being outdoors with the comfort of an indoor space really sounds incredible.
Go dark.
Changing the colour palette of your outdoor space will completely transform it. You might like warm colours. You might like light colours. However, this year going dark is trending! A bold choice that might not be comfortable for many but definitely a fashionable one! Sims Life mentions that “Dark tones are perfect for modern gardens, making any outdoor space look more stylish.”

There are many ways to incorporate dark tones to your outdoor space. You can go full out and paint your garden fence black, which will make your greenery stand out or you can add some hints of dark around the garden (maybe with new garden furniture? Your choice!).
Plants with a purpose.
“Edible gardens and vegetable patches are everywhere.” says Deep in Mummy Matters and I couldn’t agree more. During lockdown many people started planting their own veggies and herbs and I would lie if I didn’t say I did the same. I’ve always loved having a beautiful garden with colourful plants but recently, I’ve been moving into colourful veggies which we could also enjoy at our dinner table.
