Ah, Valentine’s Day! A day of love, happiness and a popular day for marriage proposals. People get swept up in the sheer romance of the day and take advantage of the beautiful flowers, Valentine’s weekend away deals and the chocolate. You must never forget the chocolate!
If you are going with the romantic flow and want to get down on one knee and pop the big question, there’s a lot to consider and think about! The when, the where, the how-big-is-the-ring – all these are questions are ones that are important when you want to propose. There are so many types of proposals, from the truly outlandish to the sweet and simple. You’ll know the type of person you hope to marry (we hope!) so you’ll know whether you should be making a public gesture with sky writing and a mariachi band. Others? Well they may prefer a private, more intimate setting where it’s just the two of you facing the world together. So, how to conquer this mammoth question?
- Hearts Together: Lay out some flower petals and sweetie hearts from the front door to the proposal spot where you are waiting with the ring of your choice. Intimate and relaxing, there’s no pressure on either of you!
- Scavenger Hunt: A trail of treasure for all the important and significant places in your lives together. Create a scavenger hunt of clues for your significant other to find, leading to you and your proposal.
- Fly Away: Arrange a special, potentially once in a lifetime trip with northern lights specialists to see the Aurora Borealis. Show her something that’s truly ‘out of this world’ and you can hopefully merge your worlds together.
- Charming: Girls love pretty jewels, in the way that magpies do. Sure, there’s an engagement ring on offer but if you spend the time putting together a charm bracelet with charms of all her favourite things she will know you mean business. The last one could be the big question, or it could be a ‘ring’ charm and when she questions it, be ready and on that knee!
- Two for Tea: An afternoon tea or dinner together along with a public proposal could be a wonderful experience if you know she is interested in that sort of thing.
Ladies, don’t feel left out. You could always propose to your other half instead of him proposing to you! Proposals are a memorable experience and everyone wants to look back and smile at their special day. It’s important to remember though, that no matter how many special touches you put on your proposal, the only thing that matters is the person you want to marry.
