Spring is well and truly here and brings it with it a fresh new motivation to spring clean our homes and get things organised. What is it about the sun shining through the window that highlights the amount of clutter you have? Or that you need to replace certain pieces of furniture that looked great only a month or two ago. But, it can also be a wonderful feeling to embrace. Taking charge in your home and getting organised can actually work wonders for your mind and soul, as well as how your home looks.
One of the main areas in your home is your living space. This may be a lounger or formal living room, or it could be an extension off your kitchen and dining area if you rock an open plan vibe. But what we all have in common is that we all spend a good proportion of our time in those areas. Catching up with family and friends, relaxing after a tough or testing day. So I thought while this motivation is fresh within our grasp, I would share with you some of the ways you can rejuvenate your living area. I hope it inspires you to make small or significant changes to your home these next few weeks.

Let’s get rid of the clutter
Are you one of those people with a stack of papers or magazines on your coffee table waiting to be read? Where you are absolutely sure you will get round to reading them one day? Do you like to fill every free space with a photo frame, a knick knack or ornament? Do you have a stack of DVDs at the side of your television waiting to be put away? While none of the above is necessarily a bad thing, when more light enters a room, you can seek out some of the added clutter that may not need to be there. A cluttered space can have a detrimental effect on your mind, and as many of us choose to try and relax in these environments, it has to go. Of course, we will all have different opinions of what goes and what stays. Some people will want to completely minimise their space, taking spring cleaning to the maximum. Others will want to tidy away a few things. Whatever makes you happy. But even spending ten minutes doing this exercise could make a huge difference to your home. Go online to find decluttering strategies and find a method that will work for you.

Is it time to upgrade some of your bigger pieces of furniture?
We sit on our sofas and relax, we may place our cup of tea or coffee on the table in front of us, but when was the last time those items were new? Have you had that chair in the corner for years? Is your sofa looking a little disheveled? During the winter we don’t tend to notice these things, taking comfort over anything and just enjoying the warmth and coziness of it all. But spring is the ideal time to replace some of the bigger items and invest in your living area, in time for when winter comes rolling round once more. Take some time to think about your new living area and how you want it to look. Maybe go online and check out things like the denelli italia leather sofas, rustic coffee tables or modern, sleek shelving systems. Head to Pinterest to create a board of inspiration or simple make some notes. You only want to be doing this once, and you certainly want to be able to enjoy those light and airy summer evenings in your new favourite room of the house.
What about a change of colour scheme?
Perhaps nothing needs replacing in your room, but it still looks a little unloved. Then your option could be to change the wall colour or your colour scheme in the room itself. There are many things you could do. Perhaps add a feature wall with a brighter shade if you have a fairly neutral room to work with, this will definitely save you time and money but will make an impact for sure. Maybe you want to change things completely, and this could mean not only changing the wall colour but purchasing new soft furnishings for your sofa, different ornaments to display and even changing the colour of your beloved photo frames. Whether you go all out and change everything, or just inject a bit of colour here and there, the brighter days are certainly the perfect time to do it.
Is home styling your thing?
Are you one of those people that can get jealous when you scroll through your Instagram feed? How do people get their homes to look so polished and beautiful? Mainly because for the purpose of the picture you are admiring, they will have staged the photo to look that way. However, you can take a lesson from those instagram photos and add a little home styling to your abode. You don’t need to be over the top, but there are certain things you can add to your room to make it look complete. A vase of fresh flowers, a blanket strategically placed over the arm of your sofa, your cushions perfectly aligned in a certain way. Even the way your frames and ornaments sit. They can all add a dynamic to the room, and all it takes is a little home styling. Another thing to consider would be to change the layout of your room. Sometimes putting something against a different wall can add a new dimension to the living room. If you do only one thing of the above, then fresh flowers will always brighten up a room in your home.
Add some modern touches
Finally, we are a world that is evolving with technology each day, and so it may be worth it to add some modernised features to your living space. You could try and hide the wires to electrical items to keep that area looking neat and tidy, or even mounting your television on the wall to create more floor space for something else. Digital photo frames are something more people are embracing as well as considering other modern touches like built-in sound systems. You can do what feels right for you, but there is always a time to embrace technology in some way.
I hope these tips help put a spring in your step when it comes to changing up your living space.
XOXO
