Having a large family means meal times take on a whole new meaning and since we like cooking our meals from scratch it is easier to make one huge dish of food and let everyone dive in! There is a whole ethos behind Italian culture whereby family dinners are held around a table and everyone feels welcome and tucks in to the mountainous dishes lovingly created in the heart of the home!
When we found out that Prezzo were bringing out La Famiglia, a large bowl of pasta that serves 2 adults and 2 children, we just knew this was going to be our new go to place to eat! We were invited along to the Dalton Park Prezzo to trial the new way of serving and having plated up this way for years we knew they would have high expectations to live up to!
On arrival we were greeted warmly and shown to a booth in the beautifully light and airy restaurant. With modern seating, plenty of space between tables, beautiful tiled work spaces and an open pizza fire we felt at ease from the start. The manager was so funny and made such a fuss of the girls it was really nice to make them feel as though they were an integral part to the day out when most of the time they are plonked down with a colouring page and some crayons!
It was explained to us that we would receive a sharing bowl of pasta, garlic bread and drinks, they were so lovely and could sense that we were starving and wanted to impress so brought out both the caramelised onion garlic bread (OH EM GEE- why has no one done this before!), a cheesy garlic bread for the kids, 2 bowls of chips and the family bowl of carbonara pasta.
Now, I have to admit I am a pretty good pasta maker and even I was very impressed with this dish, there was plenty of bacon pieces and torn pancetta and lots of delicious creamy sauce but not so much it drown the pasta itself. The girls loved it so much they had 2 bowls each!
The Famiglia bowls are available in Penne Arrabiata, Spaghetti Bolognese, Spaghetti Carbonara or Penne Alla Rusticana and we are really looking forward to taking the kids back to try another bowl (Spag Bol is my absolute favourite but hubby isn’t keen so I may have to just visit with the boys!)
There was actually so much food there we had to have the garlic bread boxed to take home!
XOXO

I don’t think I have ever eaten at a Prezzo before. I love the idea of a sharing bowl though.
It’s such a good idea having a big bowl of pasta to share – I love sharing meals 🙂
Yum! That looks so good! And it’s such a great idea too. Although let me tell you, in my Italian family, this is just the starter. Haha!
This is such a great idea, I can really see it taking the stress out of what to choose for everyone too.
This is an innovative idea from Prezzo, I’m quite fascinated and I love the fact it is reminiscent of an Italian family tradition. My family would love to try this I’m sure.
Looks like you had a nice quiet evening, the restuarant was packed for our visit. The Penne Alla Rusticana is amazing
Ooh yum the food at Prezzo looks absolutely DELICIOUS!! I have been to the Dalton Park one when it first opened and the service wasn’t great but I went back on Valentines Day and it was greatly improved. Really love it there now, especially with the cinema so close by! xxx
