Oh the joys of living in an all girl household, thankfully Poppy fits in perfectly with us all and has a tendency to like the finer things in life too. She is a little bit of a shopaholic too when it comes to wanting new goodies and is just like her momma and sisters, getting excited when packages arrives!
We thought it might be fun to do a ‘What doggies want’ kind of guide if you are on the hunt for pressies for a pooch or buying for a new four legged addition to your family.
Poppy is a chunky older dog so we needed something that was both fun for her and fun for the girls too, the Chuckit balls and launcher are great as they really do get some height and distance to the ball. The girls love that they can ‘fling’ the ball all the way across the field and Amelia loves carrying the launcher to the park without having to touch a soggy ball! We even have a glow in the dark one for night time play!
With being overweight treats are limited for Poppy, sadly. We have however found these fabulous flavoured durable nylon chews from Nylabone which give her the fun of chewing without the calories! Thankfully Poppy isn’t a ‘bury the bone’ type of dog so we haven’t had to rescue this one yet but it is good to know that a quick wash would make it as good as new. Plus you can get lots (and I mean LOTS!) of different styles, flavours and sizes!
Once she comes off her Metabolic food we will be trying her on different varieties to see which one suits her best. Storage of large bags of food is going to be an issue as she is a typical lab and will find it no matter where we hide it, she has already managed to sneak a whole pack of Dentastix and some leftover food from a flip top bin! This 90 day feeder from Andrew James is big enough to hold a whole bag of food and has a lock top to stop her from getting in! It even has a programmable display that allows for up to 4 servings a day and has the ability to record messages for the dog so that they don’t feel alone at meal times when you’re not there! There is a smart sensor too that prevents over feeding and it is suitable for not only dogs but cats and rabbits too.
As I said above, Poppy is currently on weight loss food but will be going onto ‘normal dog food’ soon so we have been looking at which have great feedback from other dog owners etc. There really is nothing like the recommendation of food from another dog lover which is why when Eukanuba was recommended we knew this would be our first choice. Poppy is almost 11 so needs some extra care in her old age and I was glad to see that you can get dedicated foods for the stages of your dogs life, Poppy would be on the caring senior which gives added vitamins to help her bones and L-carnatine to maintain weight! rrp: £34.99 from Pets at Home
Grooming is essential for a pooch that likes to look good so a Grooming Kit like this one from Dremel is ideal for keeping those paws in tip top condition! By gently sanding the nails at a 45 degree angle you are less likely to cause bleeding etc and means that the pooch will be more than happy to be pampered by you instead of having to take yet another trip to the groomers! Pets cost a lot in both daily living and regular check ups etc so anything that helps save some pennies in the long run has to be a good thing! rrp: £37.99 available from Dremel
Of course, just like children, you could go on buying for your pets forever! Watch out for my Christmas gift guide for pets coming up next week for more ideas for those four legged family members!
XOXO
Debbie
