Overhauling my skin care routine
For as long as I remember I have always loved creams and lotions. I remember being around 15 and starting to use anti-wrinkle cream and eye gels – just because … you know what I’m talking about don’t deny it I’m sure you did the same! lol As I have gotten older though those habits slipped! Whether it be concentrating on other things, making excuses of pah I’ll start tomorrow or just being too darn tired that I fall into bed on a night without so much as a splash of water touching my face!
Whatever the excuse was, I guess the turn of the year and realising I’m getting no younger meant a stark realisation that something had to be done. I think it was waking one morning and looking in the mirror and not liking what looked back. Not only did I look tired but my skin looked well worn, I had little lumps and bumps all over, stress spots scattered on my chin and general patches of discolouration from no doubt the years of neglect!
With the fact that I looked well above my years etched firmly in my mind I marched straight to Superdrug and Boots with a determined swagger and a handful of Christmas money! An hour later and a basketful of goodies I headed to the till – yes there was an empty packet of Malteaser rabbits that I had bribed Amelia with too – hey it kept her quiet and happy while I bought the hopefully transformation capable goods!
Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water
This is such a fabulous cleanser. Yes I know it says water but its so much more – it removes even the stubbornest make up yet is gentle enough for cleansing day and night. I use this to freshen before bed in between the days when I use the cleansing face wash and brush.
Garnier Ultra Lift Serum & Cream
I adore this! I always think serums are too oily for my skin and really do not like the feel of them so to have it combined with cream is the perfect solution for me. It sinks straight into your skin and does not leave a tacky film I find a lot of moisturisers tend to. The pump action is ideal too as there is no waste.
OK, so the jury is out on this for the moment. Granted my lines do not appear to be as pronounced as they were but that could be down to the Ultra Lift serum & cream. I am using this both morning and night and although it sinks in well and does not leave a shine like others do, I just do not feel a tightening that I use to when I have used others in the past. Maybe that is a good thing and it means it is having a longer lasting effect than an instant tightening!
Those who know me know I have a love of lip balm (post coming up soon where I try out a few different kinds to see which is best – does price really make a difference!) Whether they be novelty lipbalms in tubes or higher end designer ‘promise the earth’ ones – I just have to have them. I have coveted Balmi lipbalm for the longest time and when I finally saw the blister pack in Superdrug I jumped at the chance. Incorporating this into my new skin care routine was my idea of heaven. It is smooth and tastes nice, does not leave a greasy film and really does make my lips seem a lot smoother! Highly recommended!
Garnier Pure Active Deep Pore Wash
I am 42 this year and still get breakouts now and again – purely down to stress. I also have blackheads on my nose which I think some people just always do have – they are not noticeable unless close up but I wanted something that may break that cycle of breakouts and spots.
This is a refreshing cleaner that contains particles to deep clean and boy do you feel it once you have used it! My face feels tighter and fresher (and pinker!) than ever – that means it has to be working right 😉 I use it with the face brush below for a deep clean!
No7 Beautiful Skin Cleansing Brush (on offer at the moment £15 – plus its on 3 for 2 and there is a £5 No7 skincare voucher out too)
An ingenious little tool that makes deep cleaning your face fun – the two settings mean you can really work the wash into your face and it leaves you feeling so much cleaner than using a cloth or sponge.
Boots and Superdrug have Garnier on special at the moment so well worth a look!
(review of the Nip & Fab Dragon Blood range coming soon – pic was taken when skin was bare)
The picture here was taken 2 weeks after I started the new routine. To be honest I am so happy with the results I am going to try adding bits in and experimenting with other products to see what works best for my skin. I have already noticed that my skin is a lot smoother and softer, the lines are certainly less pronounced and my outbreak has all but gone. When I wake on a morning the botchyness has subsided and I actually have a kind of dewy glow … there is still some way to go but I didn’t think I would have these kinds of results after 2 weeks!
I am very happy with all of the above and will certainly be keeping them in my skincare routine!
XOXO
