You can never have too many!
I hold my hands up and admit I am a fully fledged member of Lip Balm Addicts Anonymous! (oops its meant to be anonymous isn’t it – OK, who’s with me then!?!)
As well as taking care of my skin this year I wanted to try some different lip balms as I have always used whatever I had to hand. Some are very drying so trying a few gave me a real sense of what is out there!
Lanolips 101 Ointment Cranberry – £5.60
Lanolips have taken the 101 Ointment, and added a single magical ingredient – Cranberry Fruit Extract. Rich in antioxidants, cranberries are not only a great addition to our diets to help prevent diseases, but also great when applied to our skin to help ward off wrinkles, reduce redness and help prevent any signs of skin damage.
I have heard a lot about Lanolips and this Cranberry limited edition lives up to its reputation. Provided in a cute little hanging tube this would have been ideal for any lip lover at Christmas – I only discovered it in the sale though so grab it while you can before it is sold out! (link above) This balm is a pleasure to use but a little on the heavy side, which is good for night time use as there is some still present when I wake in the morning so I know I’m getting maximum effect. Delicately scented too so great if you don’t like balms that are too fruity etc! 4/5
EOS Coconut Milk – £7.00
Enriched with natural conditioning oils, rich shea butter and antioxidant vitamins C and E, this clear coconut lip balm from EOS gives long-lasting moisture for softer, more beautiful lips. Plus, it’s paraben and petrolatum free.
I love EOS and adore the new ridges on these ones as it makes them easier to hold. The lip balm isn’t at all greasy and glides on leaving a shine and subtle flavour. This coconut milk is my favourite EOS balm as its a lot more delicate in flavour than a lot of the others. 4/5
Balmi – £4.99
Balmi Lip Balm is a perfect blend of ingredients to give your lips long lasting daily care and protection. Our special blend of Balmi moisturising goodness containing antioxidant-rich Vitamin E, soothing Shea Butter and Jojoba Oil to help leave your lips moisturised, soft and super smooth.
BY FAR my favourite everyday lip balm I have ever used! This lives up to its reputation of being a leader in its field and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a soft, smooth and subtle balm. The strawberry flavour is delicious and I can’t wait to try other flavours! The handy little square shape makes it easy to hold and store and the tapered balm makes it so easy to use! 5/5
Vaseline – £1.83
Vaseline Lip Therapy With Cocoa Butter fits neatly into handbags and pockets. With a unique retro look, this petroleum jelly contains caring cocoa butter that nourishes dry skin and lips. It also ensures that lips are protected from the effects of weather and exposure.
By far the most affordable lip balm and probably the one that is easiest to find! Supermarkets and drugstores always have this on display at the till so easy to pick up and probably the reason I always seem to have at least one in my bag! As much as I have loved this balm for years I really do feel as though I need more from my lip balm now. This is great for a quick slick but doesn’t ever seem to last long and sometimes gives a quite oily taste. 3/5
The Body Shop Shimmering Honey Lip Balm – £6.00
Treat lips to our delicious new lip balm. This sweetly-scented balm repairs and moisturises lips whilst giving them a luscious, golden shimmer.
Give me a good gimmick any day and I’m there! This cute little lip balm is in the most adorable beehive style pot and is a beautiful shimmery golden colour which makes you want to dive straight in. The balm itself was a little bit of a let down though as the dryness of the balm and the colouring tinted my lips making them less pink and more of a beige dry look. The shimmer was there but the feel of it on my lips just didn’t cut it! 2/5
The Body Shop Frosted Cranberry Lip Balm – £2.00
Make your lips the juiciest of the season with our Frosted Cranberry Lip Balm from our festive bath and body range. This vibrant treat comes in a handy tin for soft and scented lips all day long. It contains cranberry extract from North America, and Community Fair Trade beeswax.
I picked this lip balm up in the half price sale – rrp is £4 but it is only £2 while stocks last so buy now! This has a delicious scent and glides on but I find leaves me with a slick on my lips that I just don’t like the feel of – it doesn’t seem to sink in or make any real difference to my lips. I’ve given this one to Evie and she loves it – it has a slight red tinge to it and smells of Christmas so she is a happy bunny! I love the fact its fair trade and I really do adore the Body Shop and all it stands for so for that alone I give this 2/5
La Roche-Posay Cicaplast B5 Multipurpose Balm – £6.50
Cicaplast Baume B5 Multi-Purpose Repairing Balm soothes and protects the whole family’s sensitive or irritated skin. Suitable for adults, children and babies, it can be used on all kinds of everyday skin irritations and minor injuries and is ideal for use on sensitive skin. – Chapped lips – Dry or cracked skin – Skin tightness – Minor everyday injuries caused by daily aggressions – Sensitive and irritated baby skin.
OK, this one was a gamble for me as I wasn’t sure what to expect since I knew it could be used elsewhere on the skin. I presumed it would be a balm but its a very thick cream which had a slight gluey smell and is quite hard to rub in. The whole feel of it on my lips was wrong – now this may just be down to me only ever using a balm and not a ‘cream’ before so it could work for you! It also left a slight white tinge so unless I was using this as an intense night time treatment I just don’t think its practical for my everyday use however I would definitely use it elsewhere on dry patches etc. 2.5/5
Papaya Gold PawPaw Moisturising Balm – £5.99
Papaya Gold PAWPAW Moisturising Balm enriched with Bio Active Manuka Honey 20+, is a topical balm that soothes, relieves and moisturises dry, sensitive, chaffed and irritated skin and dry chapped lips. Can be used by people who are prone to eczema, psoriasis and dermatitis. Also suitable for children.
This is another ‘balm’ that is suitable for all over use and not just on the lips! Just as well as I hated it – I know that seems quite strong but I just don’t get what all the fuss is about with this make. Maybe I got a bad batch…not sure but as soon as I put this on I had to wipe my lips to get it removed! It had an awful paraffin type smell and taste and felt way to greasy. I would definitely try another flavour as maybe it was just my immediate reaction to the Papaya and Honey, this brand seems to have rave reviews everywhere so I would give it another go. 1/5
Figs & Rouge Cherry Blossom Lip Balm – £4.95
Ultra-hydrating & Multi-tasking. Figs & Rouge Cherry Blossom Lip Balm is a 100% natural and nourishing balm that keeps lips super soft throughout the day. Packed with Natural Anti-oxidants & deeply penetrating skin conditioners it keeps lips supple and hydrated.
I found a new love and it is called Figs & Rouge! Everything about this lip balm ticks boxes for me – even boxes I didn’t think were there! The tint is subtle yet colourful enough to act like a lipstick when wearing no make up – it gives a slight colour without coverage if that makes sense! The balm itself has a beautiful light scent and sinks in leaving a slight gloss with no greasy feel. THE PACKAGING!! Be still my heart! I adore everything about the style and feel of this – from the vintage style colours and design to the metal packaging and chunky lid this is simply one make I am going to have in my life for a long time to come! (not to mention they do hand cream and lip balm pots too! Eek!) 5/5
I hope this has been some use and all opinions and views are my own. I have included links to a few different stores as prices vary depending on where you buy from.
XOXO (…and very soft kisses!)
Debbie
