Let me start this by saying I ADORE CHEESE… it just doesn’t adore me back! I have been left in agony after a brie overload before but that doesn’t stop me from doing it time and time again.
I realised I needed to change this and have found some great options with Violife Vegan Alternative Cheeses. Which are all completely vegan and great for those living on a plant based diet.
Violife Cheese is free from dairy, preservatives, casein, lactose, gluten, nuts and soya. It is based on coconut oil and is fortified with Vitamin B12, which plays an important role in the metabolism of every cell in our bodies.
The taste is different but just like everything Vegan it is about a lifestyle chance and something you will get use to if that is the path you wish to take. My recommendation is like anything, introduce it slowly and gradually get your taste buds use to it. We did the same with olives and mustards etc.
The website is full of guilt free vegan recipes and features some amazing dishes from around the world, adapted for a plant based diet. The zucchini ribbon souvlaki was a great hit here as the girls were trying a whole host of new flavours!
The website it also great for those who are just switching over as it gives a great opportunity to learn about Violife. Who they are, their ethos and why it is such a good idea to make the switch sooner rather than later.
Personally, being lactose intolerant, I find it difficult when I crave something dairy. I was use to warming up a round of brie and using a crusty loaf or carrot sticks as dippers … then one day I couldn’t do that anymore without pain. Violife may take a little getting use to after a life of dairy but the fact I can eat it without the after effects outweighs any desire I had to indulge!
