Thanks to the Great British weather we need to make the most of the sunshine and what with the schools all breaking up this week for the summer holidays I have compiled a list of things we can’t wait to do in the coming months!
I have joined forces with Shield Insurance to highlight how we will be spending our summer trying to Unlearn The City and get out from behind social media and modern technology and get back to basics!
We have such a fabulous community of bloggers so I asked them how they are looking forward to summer and how they can Unlearn The City too…
My daughter is happiest outside exploring and being with nature. She would choose to be outside over inside any day and she only just turning 1! I’ve learnt to appreciate all weathers! – GolddustBlog
Just hearing the birds singing and having butterflies flying past me I love. I hate the fact my son loves being inside and insist on at least lunch in the garden most days of the holidays! – JustAverageJen
We spend a lot of time outdoors! We love being by the sea or in nature; it is good for stress levels, mental health and well being. – LivingLifeOurWay
I love walks along the beach in the summer, my little one is only 5 months old and is so happy on the beach, playing and watching the people go by, I swear the sound of the waves calms her! – FizzyPeaches
We love being outdoors, normally every weekend one day is dedicated to some outdoorsy fun no matter the weather. It charges us up for the week ahead. – CaptainBobCat
It’s refreshing to be outside and leaving behind all the technology and worries and just being back in touch with nature. I find it so relaxing and therapeutic to just sit on a beach and listen to the waves. – EmmaReed
I love how there are so many things going on for my little boy to point and marvel at. He’s at that age now where I can tell him what everything is and you can see the cogs turning as he soaks everything up. He points at the most obscure things that normally is just walk past without noticing. – MummyToDex
I love water, be the beach or a river. There’s something different about the light near water and the sounds are so restful. It really helps me to breath deeply and let go of the stresses of modern life. Plus the children love it! – ExeterBabyActivities
And two of my favourite blogger quotes of all…
Modern life is exhausting mentally. The main thing I would change is the ” breaking news” culture that if you work, as we do, using social media, it’s impossible to escape. The world is portrayed in such a depressing way by the media and It really can get on top of me. My escape is to get outside, amongst nature and animals, beautiful flowers and butterflies. It reminds me of the wonder and beauty in the world . I love to watch my kids at one with nature , embracing it and finding serenity there as I do. Contrary to the media portrayal , there is so much wonder and hope in the world that you can find outside at the beach, or in the rolling fields or majestic forests. – FamilyTravelwithEllie
We love staying outdoors, connecting with nature and leaving feeling refreshed and energized and buzzing about our experiences, we find modern day distractions like ipads and phones quite a draining and can take up treasured time. Enjoy those fleeting moments and live in a way that works for you and your family, to me this is the most fulfilling thing in life you can do. – WildLived
I think these quotes hit the nail right on the head, it’s those burdons of pressure from phones, iPads and technology in general that makes us all want to escape outdoors….no electricity, no internet, no judgement, just pure family fun getting back to nature!
How are you spending your summer and what would you like to unlearn?
XOXO

This is a collaborative post with Shield Insurance.
I love this! We are going to be spending a lot of time over the summer unlearning the city. I plan to make a Forest School jar of activities to help make that happen 🙂
I absolutely ADORE this! We make a point to get out and enjoy nature as a family whenever we can. It’s a great way to get in some exercise and realize that there is a world outside of our computer screens.
I love getting outside with my daughter’s – there’s no where better to exhaust her, help her learn and explore the world around us. There’s so much to learn and discover 🙂
We plan on going to the beach at some point during the summer holidays and I cannot wait to get into the sea. I swear the real life moana haha! X
I agree that we all need to get back to nature. I live in a wooded area in a small town near the Missouri river in the US. Having nature all around me gives me peace and tranquility.
Camping is one of my favorite summer activities. Anything that lets me get outdoors and be close with nature is great. In Texas there are plenty of beautiful places to escape to when you don’t want to be surrounded by busy streets filled with traffic.
YES to everything in this post! I love to get out and explore my city, especially in the summer months, there is always so much to see and do!!
We’re part of the National Trust so we’re always off on an adventure discovering somewhere new.
I love all these summer ideas. It is so important to unplug a little bit and get outside and enjoy the beautiful world around you.
It’s so important to spend time in the outdoors and reconnect with nature. We are always doing outdoorsy things, but then we are really lucky living in a rural area. I can imagine it being a bit hard to do that for people living in cities.
We love Summer and the holidays and having a chance to get outside and explore. It’s really fun.
