Once in a while you discover something right on your doorstep that you never knew was there! That is what happened when we were asked to visit the local Black Bull, Sizzling Pub & Grill. Which, until I googled to find out where it was, didn’t realise it was less than 10 minutes away.
Set in the pretty little village of Old Shotton, the Black Bull pub is exactly what you would expect from a Sizzling Pub & Grill from the outset. A warm friendly atmosphere and staff greet you on arrival and nothing seemed to be a problem at all throughout our visit. High chairs were already in place and our table reserved even though it was really quiet which with it being during a school week was fully expected.
As always we chose from the menu and ordered at the counter, the whole process was effortless and the food arrived pretty quickly too. There is nothing worse than hanging around with hungry little ones!
The menu is extensive and we were all pleasantly surprised with the food we ordered, having visited a different Sizzling Pub & Grill recently we call all safely say this was way better than the food we were served on that occasion. I know each pub will be different but the overall aesthetics and look of the food was more impressive. It is said you eat with your eyes first and this all looked amazing!
Starters arrived and we had opted for the 3 for £8, this was a real bargain as there was more than enough for us to share or divide between the 3 adults. We chose the hallumi fries, crispy prawns and lamb koftas, each came with dip and salad leaves.
The kids opted for the usual nuggets, burger and mini mixed grill which were all more than enough for little ones, none of them finished the entire plate full. Knowing that kids eat for £1 with each paying adult means that you don’t mind if they leave some!
The grown ups opted for the triple stack burger, carbonara with additional chicken breast and the 3 way hunters chicken. Each were very well portioned and piping hot, you have to love the sizzling noise when they bring out the skillet and thankfully that one was mine! I don’t think any of us finished the full meal but it wasn’t because we didn’t try!
We will most definitely be back soon and knowing it is just on the doorstep could get very dangerous!
XOXO
Debbie
