There really is nothing nicer than a bowl of steaming hot soup on a cold Winters day. I was recently sent the Beko Soup Maker to review and also offer one as a giveaway to my readers. Check the Gleam box at the bottom of this post to enter.
Having never used a soup maker before I was a little dubious as to how it would work but I heard someone describe it as a ‘kettle and blender for vegetables’ and to be honest I don’t think I could say it any better. It takes all of the work out of home made soup and uses one jug, in the past when I have made soup on the hob I have pans, blender, jugs etc. Anything that saves on washing up is always a good idea in my books.
Since overhauling my kitchen I am limited for bench work space but this has such a small footprint that I would be happy to leave it out all of the time. It is simple to put together, the jug simply sits on top of the base and then the lid and cap push into place. Simply plug it in and go.
I made 2 soups and it couldn’t have been any easier. My absolute favourite has to be butternut squash but since I couldn’t get my hands on any I opted for leek instead.
I bought prepacked leek and cabbage mix which I emptied into the soup maker, added 2 diced potatoes and filled it up to the soup line with boiling water. I then added 2 stock pots to the mix. Once switched on the timer counts down for 35 minutes, you can obviously choose which setting your put it on as there are ones for smoothies etc too. The soup one for chunky starts at 35 minutes, after that time it then blends the mix for 13 seconds and voila – done! Soup, cooked, blended and ready to eat in one go!
The second soup I made was butternut squash, this time I chopped up the veg quite small, adding in potato, water and stock again. Be careful where you fill it to, don’t think the more you add the more soup you will get, I filled it up to the line again and the second image shows just how close it comes to the top when blending. This is scalding hot liquid so any spills would be dangerous.
