We all know that summer is for living. But, we’ve got a few months before we get there. And, your spring clean still stands between you and those long days you’re desperate to get to. That’s right; with spring on our heels, it’s time to turn your attention to getting your house clean. The origins of spring cleaning aren’t entirely clear. For the most part, it seems to stem from the Jewish tradition of cleaning the home ready for Passover. But, many cultures also have an annual house clean around the same time. It makes sense. What better way to invite summer into your home than freshening the place? If you’re struggling to get your head around the spring clean this year, we’ve broken it into chunks. Anything to make the job easier, right?
UNDERNEATH FURNITURE
Your spring clean should be the time when you tackle those places you don’t usually clean. So, start by moving your furniture. The amount of dust and general muck that gathers underneath is disgusting. And, what better time than to sweep those hidden cobwebs away? Make sure you lift the furniture in the right way, so you don’t hurt yourself. And, always adopt the help of someone else! Then, get those rubber gloves on and start cleaning. As well as sweeping underneath cabinets and sofas, remember underneath the fridge! The more thorough you are, the fresher your home will feel.

WINDOWS
This is a more obvious job, but it’s an important one to tackle. After being shut all winter, your windows will be stiff, dusty and stale. As soon as the weather is warm enough, crack them open. This will not only loosen your windows again, but it’ll also bring fresh air into your winter stale home! Then, get to work with scrubbing. Condensation can cause windows to get mucky and moldy. A good way for avoiding that problem is to get trickle vents for windows where you think you need them. For now, though, a bowl of soapy water and a wash cloth should do the job. Keep your rubber gloves on here, too. You don’t want that mold making contact with your skin!

WASHING MACHINE
Talking of jobs you wouldn’t normally do; now is the perfect time to wash your washing machine. Not cleaning your washing machine could result in musty clothes and a damp smell in your home. Get scrubbing inside and out. Make sure, too, to clean the conditioner drawer. Then, put the machine on a hot wash with nothing in it. If you think it needs it, you could also buy specific washing machine products.
THOSE HARD TO REACH PLACES
To finish off, get the duster and clean those hard to reach places. You got it; above the doors and the tops of cupboards! Though you can’t see them, they gather an incredible amount of dust over time. Out of sight should not be out of mind, though. Dust spores are terrible for your lungs. Get rid of them!
