Today is the first day of advent and this of course means the start of many fabulous events and treats for the kids. 25 days of fun in the run up to Christmas…well that is unless the mischief of Giggles and Pickles don’t rock the boat too much!
Yes, this year we have given in to the phenomenon that is Elf on the Shelf, we did this a couple of years ago and the kids loved it but last year he was so good that he got to stay at the North Pole to help Santa (…loosely translated as mamma couldn’t be doing with staying up to make sure the damn little elf moved every night!) However, this year we have 2 of the little buggers sweethearts to stay so double the trouble!
They arrived this morning in a flurry of donuts, cupcakes and even Buddy the elfs favourite breakfast of Candy Spaghetti – We elves try to stick to the four main food groups: candy, candy canes, candy corns, and syrup.

Both Giggles and Pickles were sitting in the middle of the table with their passport, welcome letter, behaviour charts and DVD. There were piles of pancakes with maple syrup, chocolate milk and activity books for the kids to do.
After the excitement that was our North Pole breakfast the kids got to open up day one of their book advent, the boys didn’t want to take part and were all about the chocolate this morning so Evie and Amelia got a book each with it being the first day.

Amelias was The Gnomes Christmas Chaos that came with a cute little Gnome which she hasn’t put down yet and Evie got The Christmasaurus which I cant wait to start reading to them tonight.
Books tucked away for bedtime tonight it was time to move onto the chocolate advent, Amelia has Peppa Pig, Evie – Shopkins, Jake, Ethan and Scott have Avengers and I have Thorntons Snowdog. Trying to convince Amelia that it is just one chocolate a day is going to be a daily battle – i can tell already as she would have worked her way through the lot given half the chance!
I prepped the wooden advents last night and filled each door with a mini candy cane and little note to say which Christmas movie/activity we would be doing that day when they get in from school!

Stuart doesn’t have an chocolate advent this year as hes trying to lose weight, what he doesn’t know though (well he will now if he reads this before bedtime!) is that I have been doing a letter advent for him. I have written him 25 letters, notes, photographs with memories written on them etc. Fingers crossed it goes down well….whats the betting he would rather have had chocolate! ha

I’ve just blown our Advent candle out for tonight. We must remember to light it each night!
This looks really good fun for the kids however, for some reason I find these elves very creepy!
