By now everyone and their dog (get it?!) have heard about the Great North Snowdogs and to be honest I’m not surprised! I have mentioned them before on my blog and we still have a few to tick off and time is running out! The dogs were placed around the North East on the 19th of September for 10 weeks so we only have a few weeks to complete the rest.
We were kindly invited to work with Metro to travel around and see as many dogs as we could during one day. The fabulous thing about the Metro offer is that you only pay £10 for 2 adults and 3 children to travel all day on the Metro and North Shields ferry and you get these great wrist bands to keep too!
We started off our day by parking the car at Heworth station and jumping on our first Metro ride of the day taking us into the heart of Newcastle and Monument station.
Here we spotted our first dogs, Rosa Canina, being a true bloggers child Evie pulled out her camera to capture the codes to enter onto the App! Just as well as I couldnt get signal so at least we had all the codes when we got home!
Next up on our travels was Hounds Tooth and Psychedelic Snowdog both found on Northumberland Street.
Continuing our trek on foot we came across Hound Dog and Roodle both situated inside of Eldon Square, I have to say I think Roodle was everyones favourite today, the cuddle factor wins it every time!
We stopped at this point for something to eat, Byron is always a top choice for quick and tasty food. (more on that to follow in a seperate post!)
With our tummies full we headed on round to the Civic Centre to see Tails of the North East, we were really surprised to see that there were no other people around so we managed to get pictures straight away instead of having to queue like we have on our past visits to some of the Snowdogs!
Heading back down towards Central Station we passed The Dog Father, Essense of the North, Arthur** and Wor Geordie before hopping on the Metro and heading out to North Shields. **Thanks to a corrupt file on the phone we don’t have photos for the first 3 which I am gutted about 🙁
The girls took the time to complete the puzzled in the magazine we were given before setting off. We got off a station too late though and had a lot of walking to do as we meandered our way back up to our first North Tyneside Snowdog.
We soon spotted the Snow Angel of the North at Tyneside Park and decided at this point to stop for Hot Chocolate and cream scones and found the most adorable maze and crazy golf that we have promised the kids we will revisit when we have more time!
Next on our route we spotted our second Snowdog not far away at the Blue Reef Aquarium, Dogfish.
Guide Dog and Skipper were next on our list as we walked to the Fish Quay to hop on to the ferry from North Shields across to South Shields. This was the first time the kids have been on the ferry and they were all very excited! We have promised to bring them again another time as there were so many more dogs we didn’t get to see so will be doing the whole route again!
Getting off the ferry at South Shields we spotted which is perhaps the favourite most mentioned dog of all on social media – Pawdington! I have to admit we all have a soft spot for him here too! The kids celebrated the fact we finally met our favourite with a DAB*! *a dab is a dance move where you fling your arms and cover your eyes, I’m sure if you have kids you have seen this before.
By this point the kids were getting tired and grumpy, although we had used the metro on and off all day we had done an awful lot of walking too! I have booked more tickets for us and we will be doing the whole route starting in Sunderland and working our way back over towards Newcastle to catch any of the Snowdogs we have missed!
Overall we had a fabulous day and if you want to see a lot of dogs in a short space of time I highly recommend getting the Metro pass and bands!
