Some days you need nothing more than good old fashioned comfort food, well this was one of those days! We have driven past The Chester Moor Inn on the way to Chester Le Street so many times, situated on Front Street at Chester Moor it was reopened in April 2016 under new management.

Most places start serving food around 11.30am so when we saw a sign outside saying food from 12 we expected to have to wait a while. Thankfully though food IS served from 11.30 and we were spot on time and the first inside…and the only ones in throughout the hour or so we spent there. Whether that was to do with the sun belting down or the fact the kids have not long been back at school I’m unsure but it certainly isn’t because of the decor or food!

Walking in hubby gave me a smile as he knew it was my kind of decor from the entrance hall, beautifully gilded mirrors, tartan tub chairs and study style wall cladding The Chester Moor is the kind of place you can imagine curling up in a corner, hugging a glass of hot toddy when the weather is awful outside. In fact I cant wait for winter to do just that!

We were asked to choose where we wanted to sit so we chose the large tub chairs and a highchair was brought over for Amelia. Drinks were ordered and we chose what we wanted to eat from the lunchtime menu. I opted for the giant Yorkshire pudding filled with mash, mince and vegetables, hubby went for The Chester Moor Brunch and Amelia, the chicken nuggets kids meal with peas.
We didn’t have to wait too long, long enough to know they are cooked fresh though which is always a good sign!
Mine was served in a giant bowl with a side dish of vegetables which were all cooked to perfection (nothing worse than soggy cauliflower!) and everything was piping hot!

Stuart loved his oversize plate of what was essentially a cooked breakfast with chips and baguette and struggled to finish it all, which was a novelty!

Having just woken from her nap as we pulled in to the car park, Amelia didn’t touch hers and opted for eating daddys egg and a banana instead!
The venue and food were perfect for a family lunch out and the menu for evening meals looked very good so we will be back to try that out too. I am sure I overheard one of the staff say that the kitchens had been closed last week for a refurb and there did seem to be workmen around the outside of the building so not sure if they are having more work done. Either way nothing distracted from the quiet lunch we expected.
XOXO
