There’s something incredibly romantic about the idea of a motorhome – the concept of being able to take your home with you when you travel and live a nomadic lifestyle free of the constraints of traditional 9-5 living.
A motorhome essentially brings the concept of a ‘home on wheels’ to life, offering a unique way to explore new destinations while carrying the comforts of home with you. If you’re new to the world of motorhome adventuring, however, you might need a little help when it comes to preparation.
Of course, choosing the right motorhome for your family (and your budget) is vital and that’s true whether you’re buying or renting. Something that often gets overlooked in all the excitement, however, is the packing. Because you might not necessarily want to pack the same things for a motorhome holiday as you would a conventional holiday.
With that in mind, we’ve put together a comprehensive list of everything you might want to take with you on your first (or fifty first) motorhome adventure.
Comprehensive Motorhome Packing Checklist• Kitchen essentials and cooking equipment such as pots, pans, utensils, cutlery, and, of course, a portable stove if your motorhome isn’t equipped with one as standard.• Food storage containers and bags to keep your perishables safe.• Comfortable bedding and linens, as well as all the same sheets, blankets and pillows you’d use at home. You might also want to consider a sleeping bag for cooler nights or warm nights sleeping out under the stars!• Toiletries. Yes, there are many schools of thought on it, but you will need to use the toilet at some point in your motorhome and it always pays to be prepared, even if you have a strict “no number 2s in the van” rule. Other than loo roll, you’ll of course need toothpaste, soap, a toothbrush and everything else you’d generally take on holiday, including a first aid kit.• Different kinds of clothing suitable for different situations. Pack everything from shorts and shirts to rain gear and thermals as well as weather-appropriate attire.• Outdoor gear is always a good shout if you’re holidaying in the warmer months. This could be anything from campingchairs and tables to portable BBQs. If you do bring a grill with you, however, remember to invest in a portable fire extinguisher too!• You’re also driving a vehicle, at the end of the day, so you’ll want to prepare yourself with everything you’d bring on a road trip including a tyre pressure gauge and emergency tools, as well as your vehicle documentation. If you’ve bought the motorhome, meanwhile, you’ll also want to invest in some motorhome insurance.• Finally, bring entertainment. Anything from games consoles to streaming devices to keep the kids entertained. And a deck of cards and a few board games is always a good idea in case the juice runs out!
Packing for a motorhome holiday requires careful planning and consideration. By ensuring that you have all the necessary items, however, you can guarantee a more comfortable and secure journey. Remember, the right preparation can make all the difference in enjoying the freedom and joy that motorhome travel offers.
