If you haven’t heard of ASMR, where have you been? Celebrities, health professionals and even children are going nuts for the brain stimulating pastime! Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response (ASMR) is a calming, pleasurable feeling often accompanied by a tingling sensation which has been known to help with sleep or relaxation.
We love educational toys but also love things that can keep the kids quiet for a little while and boy does this sand do the job! The So Sand DIY studio from Canal Toys is a platform where you create your own coloured magic sand that does not dry out – EVER!
The contents of the box include pots, tools, bags of sand and magic sand components to create over 30 different and unique sensory experiences. The studio comes with 10 unique tools and moulds alongside storage containers and removable mat that can be used to add patterns.
Aimed at children age 6+ and priced at £24.99 I have to say I think this is perfect, Amelia loves it and it really does hold her attention for ages. The studio is easy enough to put together but changing the cutters might be a little tricky for smaller hands as they need to be twisted and clipped into place. There are no sharp objects and even the knife and sand cutters are plastic so you know they are safe.
We love the whole concept behind it and having to mix our own sand was such a joy for the girls.
You receive 3 bags of the basic white sand, 3 colours to mix (green, pink and yellow) and 3 smaller bags of glitter and stars to mix in with the sand should you want to add more texture and dimension to your playtime.
There is a cup where you can shape your magic sand into a cylinder to be the perfect shape for ASMR cutting in the studio. Slicing through the sand is just so satisfying – as proclaimed on the studio itself!
I love the fact that you can purchase additional packs of sand separately, even grab bags which are pocket money prices. The sand does not dry out so can be used time and time again making it a very affordable toy and something that will be ready to play with if brought out after weeks tucked away.
The amount of times we have opened packs of playdough to find dry pieces – arghh! The only problems I can see with this is figuring out who’s turn it is to play!
Available to purchase from all good toy stores including Smyths, Argos and Amazon.
