Whether it’s your first home or a new one, renovations are one of the most stressful parts of getting your home up to the standard you’re pleased with. But when you are trying to manage renovations from top to bottom, but you’ve also got children around, this can add to the anxieties. With that in mind, are there any ways for you to cope with renovation stress when you have children tugging at your trouser leg halfway up a ladder?

Finding Ways To Distract Them
Even when you have the builders in, and you’re trying to give specific instructions, your children will find a way to interrupt you. At the end of the day, children only want to help when they see all this going on, so giving them little duties to keep them distracted, but also to give them a sense of purpose is easily done.
Minimising The Potential For Disaster (Or Mess)
While children only want to help, if there are a lot of toys lying around, or dangerous equipment, the chances are that there will be an accident pretty soon! Instead, take advantage of the storage facilities near you like Storebox so the vast majority of your treasured and expensive items won’t get thrown in the rubbish at the end of the day! It’s also worth bearing in mind but, when you have the builders in, you’ve got to keep clutter to a minimum, to make life easier for everyone. And while children come with an abundance of clutter, ensure that you keep it contained!
Minimising Stress
If you are not used to finding ways to relax, then you need to have a few techniques in your back pocket. Because there are a million things going on, and that’s just with the children, if you’ve got to make snap decisions with the builders, about something that needs changing right away, this anxiety and pressure can overwhelm us. So, we have to find ways to calm down. There are numerous relaxation methods you can take advantage of, but it’s best to find something that suits you. Maybe it’s just having a good night’s sleep, or it’s about finding that opportunity to decompress. After all, if you’re living in a lot of mess, and you’ve got kids to add to the stress, you may find yourself struggling.
Getting Away From The Issues
It’s recommended that if you’re going through a renovation that you move out of the house temporarily. While this isn’t financially feasible for the vast majority of us, it’s still sage advice. Taking the opportunity to get away from everything, even for a weekend, and going to visit a relative, or splashing out on a hotel, can separate you from the problems. It’s up to you if you want to take the kids or not, but if you find the renovation process has been going on for too long, taking an opportunity to have a mental breather will work wonders.
When we have children, we can feel ourselves wired for stress, but, take the time to peer beneath the floorboards of your mind and find ways to cope.
